Title: Key play of the Game
Post by: CTWarrior on February 24, 2007, 05:33:23 PM
We cut a 9 point lead to 50-48, get a steal we're in business with a chance to tie.  Fitz wide open for the three from the corner, hesitates and decides to drive.  Stumbles into the lane and finds himself wide open again, 8 feet from the basket.  Decides to throw a bounce pass to the two Notre Dame defenders under the basket.  Off goes ND, the lead is back to 7 before we knew what hit us.  Never mounted another serious charge, though we cut it to 6 a time or two.

Good call - that play made me angry enough to scream.  I think I did scream.

I did some serious screaming on that one, but not as loud as the foul calls on Matthews and McNeal.

Fitz is too unselfish for his own good. Bench his butt for Lazar.

Fitz needs to shoot first, then think.  When he thinks first and tries to play beyond himself, bad things happen.

Marquette Up five with about 4:30 to go in half.  McNeal gets fouled and misses front end of one-and one.  ND proceeds to go on a 13-3 run

Fitz's lack of confidence and agressiveness reminds me of Novak in his junior year.  The guy can shoot and be a playmaker for this team... if he just had the agressiveness.

I'll take it back even further that that...12-15 minutes or so left in the first half with Mu up by 10-12 points. Fitzgerald misses an open 3, Falls immediately hits a 3 at the other end. Changed the entire complexion of the game. Instead of extending the lead, ND got it back to a very manageable margin and were bale to play much more comfortably and chip into the lead. I had a bad feeling immediately when it happened, and my fears were realized. After that, we took our foot off the gas, had no answers defensively and you know the rest. I am not blaming him by any means, but I honestly believe if that shot by Fitz goes down, we go on to win the game easily.
