Nice piece by Brad Galli. Liked alot what I heard from Vander. Take a watch. Let speculation begin.

I don't get the speculation quote/question, but Vander appears to be a mature 18 year old who has the desire and fortitude to contribute in a major way to the program in the next few years. Very impressive young man who clearly loves the fact he is coming to play at Marquette.
Brad Galli, as usual, does an exceptional job during these media interviews and I look forward to him at the next level. Just dump the the tie clip Brad.

Keep in mind, he's only 17.
Sure like his attitude and enthusiasm!
Anyone know anything about the all-star game he mentioned.
"John Wall is a big point guard too."
So does anyone think we will see van at point next year?
Another note, he said he talks to reggie everyday, so does this make newbill the front runner to go the prep route?

Keep in mind, this was recorded awhile back. The all-star game he referred to was postponed because Montverde advanced to the finals of the RISE Tournament the first weekend of April. I'm guessing this was recorded in late March or very early April.
I suppose the only speculation would be that when this was recorded, Smith was planning on being at MU (although I don't think his friendship with Vander would change if he had to go prep)
The biggest thing I got from this is that this kid wants to be a PG. I am sure he sees DJO at the 2 and realizes that there isn't much PT to be had there. In other words, he probably thinks he can eventually beat out Junior at the 1. He prob also realizes that if he plays the point and is successful in college, it translates better for him at the next level
The other thing I got from this is that I cannot wait to see this kid play

I COULDN'T AGREE MORE
I sad it twice already and I will say it again. Reggie Smith will be at Marquette in July and is NOT going to prep school.

Good to hear on Reggie. That Vander video gets me PUMPED UP big time for the season.
Really love the interview! Good work to Galli as usual.

I guess I'm not sure why everyone just assumes it is either one or the other. Why not Gardner?
Man, I'm so anxious for this upcoming season and squad!!

So three of your eight posts were about Reggie Smith coming to MU. What did you say the other 5 times?

additionally, saying it is one thing, backing it up with something other than 'trust me' is another.

But honestly in regards to backing it up, unless he had a video of Reggie, DJ, Or Buzz telling him the truth, would anyone believe him?
There is really nothing other than 'trust me' available at this point.

right, but is he close to Reggie? Does he know him, his AAU coach, or his HS coach? Does he have anything other than 'I heard from a guy, who heard from a guy'.
I'd be more
likely to believe him if he said that he had some first hand knowledge.
Now I expect you to tell me that he could be lieing and nothing can be certain. I realize that. I am talking about degrees of believability here.
Speculation aside....
Obviously, Vander was prepped for the questions, but he answered with confidence. Clearly he understands and believes what he is saying, even if they aren't entirely his own words. I like that he talks about elite eights and final fours instead of "making it out of the first round" (a defeatist's goal) or winning a championship (an unrealistic goal - from a numbers perspective, any way).
It's awesome to hear him buying into the junkyard dog mantra. That's a good sign.
Thanks for the comments, views, and feedback everyone.
I can confirm we did this in late March, and that the tie bar is here to stay (and I'm on the bandwagon). Thank Ryan Seacrest for that.
As one of my good friends pointed out, one of the most underrated quotes in that interview with Vander:
"Pressure's just another word."

Tie Bars are coming back. Brad clearly keeps his eye on GQ. Going for that Mad Men feel. Nice work per usual BG.

Vander doesn't, though.
Over under on when Galli is hosting Sportscenter?
I say 2014....
Sweet. Can't wait to see this guy play MU bball.
Really like how Vander elaborates on the details when he answers questions. He should teach other pros how to answer questions.
And Brad....you could teach the shiteous Milwaukee sports reporters how to ask questions. nice job. learn how to shake a mans hand, though.
i didn't write crapeous... :o ?-( ;) ;D
Back when I did those interviews last year, we never really prepped the athletes. Occasionally one would be really nervous so we'd let them know what we were going to ask, but that was at most a minute before the cameras rolled. They get squeezed into an afternoon slot about an hour long because of all of the other commitments that everyone has.
If Vander prepped more than a minute it would surprise me.
My impressions from this video:
Vander is turning into a MAN. It makes me excited for the future when you consider how much he achieved as a player before he was physically mature. Impressive.
And, Brad Galli is a natural doing interviews.
Anyone know the scoop on the All Star tourney in FL he mentions? Would love to see him and Jones playing before the season.
Two guys on that set that we can be very proud of as representatives of MU.

I think it ended up getting canceled. I forgot the reason, but I don't the event was held.
