Scratch DJ Newbill from the prep school candidate list. He is fully qualified and ready to join the MU basketball ranks. He is playing in a Philly tourney with several other top recruits next week and once that event is complete I will post a full length feature story. It will be fun to see how he competes against some of the premier talent out here. From what I have seen of him so far, he's got a terrific shot at contributing his freshman season. I wouldn't give much credence to the three star ranking considering he emerged late on the scene and is getting rave reviews from many in the know in this basketball rich area.
Are you sure?
Butchbadger's sources say he is the one.
How many times does it need to be said...Nobody is fully qualified until they go through the Clearinghouse. That cannot be done until a the player graduates from high school.
I'll be happy to post a retraction when I am proven wrong.

I am not saying you are wrong. He may believe that everything is in line (grades, test scores, transcripts) and that he will qualify, and I hope he as no problem doing so.
What I am saying, is that I am pretty sure nobody can be officially qualified until they are done with HS and go through the Clearinghouse.
I can tell you this. His SAT score is well above the requirement and so are his grades. His coach has told me repeatedly that DJ is not going to prep school. What other source do I need?

Seems to me that if this is true, DJ isn't the one going the prep route. Buzz has said the player(s) know who they are. DJ doesn't sound like one who knows he's going to prep school.

Just because a player qualifies doesn't mean he's not going to prep school. However, I take the comments from his coach as a stronger indication that he's coming next year.
Why are we overlooking Gardner qualifying? His coach just recently said he hadn't qualified yet......and with speculation of Mbao then the numbers even out correct?
Everyone is automatically assuming the only reason for prep school is a lack of qualifying academic scores but last time I checked academic non-qualifiers are not the only kids playing basketball at prep schools....

Actually, you need to get this confirmed through Golden Avalanche who on the Devante Gardner thread posted this, and has asserted this on other threads:
"Last week, I wrote that Newbill would go to prep to trim the roster. That has been confirmed by multiple people in private and by multiple people in public (except their words are more flowery in public). There's a little more to it then my willy-nilly nature. I was/am taken to task for writing this. Not for writing that it never and/or always happens. There's a difference."
Personally, I'm with Bradforster on this one. Golden Avalanche seems to be full of a lot of hot air.

You don't need to run anything through me. It's not like I'm on a solo mission. The hot-air balloon has many travelers.

You don't need more sources. I believe that the point is that DJ has not fully qualified yet. Will he most likely be a full qualifier? Yes. But saying that "he is fully qualified" is a bit misleading to a reader that sees 'fully qualified' and equates that to having already made it through the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Either way, good for DJ getting his ducks in a row! :)
Like Golden Avalanche, I've heard it's Newbill, too.
