Title: Marquette vs. Duke home and home
Post by: KipsBayEagle on May 13, 2010, 12:30:43 PM
when we play duke this year in the cbe, that will be 3 times we have played duke in 6 years.  the games r usually solid.  Seems like it would be a good series for both schools.

Duke really doesnt shcedule too many home and homes. When they go on the road in the non-con, it is usually falls into one of these categories:

1. Preseason Tournament
2. ACC-Big 10 Challenge
3. Neutral Court (MSG, United Center, Continental Arena)

They have done home and homes with St. Johns and Georgetown the last few years, so it is possible. I just dont see how Duke would be interested in one with Marquette.

Seeing MU play in Cameron would be epic.

If we do see them in the CBE, I'm afraid we'll get destroyed.

Speaking of playing Duke, I never hated them until the last time we played them in Hawaii where the difference in fouls was like 26 to 14, and I think Duke performed about six of their classic flops.

Don't know why otherwise level-headed people like MUfan12 appreciate Coach K so much.  ;)

Who said MU is even playing Duke. MU might play K-State and Gonzaga and miss Duke.

U miss the point of this thread  (then again, my thread doesn't really have a point now that I think about it)

on top of what GOMU1104 said, there isn't much in it for MU to travel to Duke. MU would likely not get any money out of it. Cameron is way to small so we wouldnt get alot of money from the gate. Duke wouldnt pay us to go play them (and possibly be beat at home in non-conference). There is no incentive for either school to do it. The fans [of the two programs] would like to see it happen, but the fans dont matter... all that matters is the almighty $$

If you go back through the years, Duke plays relatively few (almost no) true road games except for things like the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Most of their "road" games are played at neutral sites....MSG which is hardly neutral with all the Duke alumni in NY/NJ (they don't refer to it as the University of NJ-Durham campus for no reason.....played Iowa State in Chicago..etc......K uses every chance he can to get out of playing in other teams' home arenas (the lost to UW in Kohl this year) and play on a more neutral floor.

They would NEVER agree to come to our home court....maybe a game in Chicago...but never at the BC.  I would say no every time if we had to then go to Cameron in return....however if we could play in Raleigh or Greensboro but not CIS I would consider it.

According to the latest Rosiak blog entry (which came out after you posted this message - so I'm not calling you out), we will be playing Duke in the CBE (and then either K State or the Zags).

Great idea, but it will never happen.  There just aren't very many major-conference teams who play home-and-homes with each other unless there's a regional or historical reason to do so.  Even if Duke did want to play a Big East team, they're going to play a Syracuse or Georgetown -- something that would be the must-see game that weekend.  MU just doesn't have the national profile to pull that off [yet].

Well the last time we played them in the CBE.....we BEAT THEM.

MU beat Duke in Kansas City and the next year lost in a classic game in Maui.

Pointless Thread. I'm going to the CBE, I still don't see the reason for starting a post based on nothing.

...And the last time we beat them, they didn't have Singler, Nolan Smith, and Kyrie Irving.  I'm afraid we'd get smoked.

I'd love to see it as possibly the only one here who pulls for Duke when they're not playing MU.  Like others said, little incentive for either team to do it.  For MU fans there are probably better destinations in non-conference play to travel where we have a better chance of winning and where more than a couple dozen MU fans can get in while avoiding $400 scalped tickets.  For Duke, they will want to play a beatable team or one that guarantees them the game of the week on ESPN.
