Title: Emmanuel Negedu
Post by: MedicineHatSpanker on May 01, 2010, 10:43:46 AM
Negedu has an ICD (Internal Cardiac Defibrillator) implanted in his chest after a Sept. 28 cardiac event on Tennessee's indoor football practice field that required him to be revived. He was not cleared to continue playing for UT and Bruce Pearl urged the young man to prepare for life after basketball. Seems like Tanned Tommy Crean is going to give Negedu a slot at It's Indiana, It's Indiana. I can only express shock at Tanned Tommy's decision. I guess the fact that It's Indiana, It's Indiana has the "world's finest cardiac carte center on campus" was a key risk assessment mitigating factor in Tanned Tommy's pursuit of this young man.

I cannot fathom how Crean can justify this move. Desperation is a powerful motivation.

That is insane for any coach/program to take on that kid.  I wish the kid well, but Pearl's advice is what he should be listening to.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have to ask: Whose interests does Tanned Tommy have first - his or Negedu's? If this kid pulls a Gathers I pray to God we will heard the last of the Wizard of Mt Pleasant.

Yes, this would be a really a big risk for the IU program.  For the player's sake, I would say no.

You write that but I'm sure deep down you'd like that exact situation to play out so you could somehow feel righteous about your obsession with Tom Crean. Douchey.

Are you seriously suggesting that MedicineHat (or anyone on this board, regardless of their opinion of TC) would like to see someone die on the basketball court to validate his/their feelings toward Crean? I hope not. If so, that's megadouchey.

I don't know . . . the only one's assessing the risk of allowing Negedu to play should be medical professionals.  If he is cleared to play by several independent medical specialists, and he wants to play, why should basketball coaches get in the way of that.  Now, if Negedu is ignoring medical advice and just looking for a coach to turn a blind eye to his problems, then there is a problem.

I'm not suggesting anything on anyone else. I'm writing to the thread starter. He's clearly shown through this name (and the many other names) that he has an obsession. My point is that there is no limit to his irritating desire of self-righteousness regarding one of the many former coaches at MU.

It's the slow season. He has nothing better to do. And today, for the only day, is the time when I wanted to describe his annoyance as douchey.

You didn't just suggest he is "douchey," you suggested that he hopes a young man dies.  At what point do you admit you shouldn't be calling anyone out when you're making accusations like that?

And the problem has to rise to the level of a lack of institutional control over the program.
