Pastner would have been a great addition to our coaching staff, if only for one year.

Maybe...but he wouldn't have been able to learn as many of Coach Cal's recruiting "strategies" without being his right hand man for a season. That might have hindered his abilities.

Here's the capsule on Marquette:

Quote from: Bleacher Report

The Golden Eagles should take a step forward next season with an incoming class that includes two Top-100 players and three of four recruits adding talent and depth to the backcourt.

SG Vander Blue: 6'3", 200

Blue's a terrific combo guard with superior athleticism and quickness to take his man to the rim whenever he wants.

SF Jamail Jones: 6'6", 210

Jones is a terrific scorer, but it's his commitment to the game and coachable attitude that will make him one of the top players in the Big East late in his sophomore season and beyond.

2010 Class also includes:

PG Reggie Smith: 6'1", 180

SF Jae Crowder: 6'6", 220

Actually Stache, though it was in jest, I know, Pastner was the lead recruiter for many years at U of A and largely responsible for bringing in the talent that led to all their success.

I love how Crowder always seems to be an afterthought in these rankings.  He'll be a major contributor from the get-go (albiet only for two years).

I am shocked that Tennessee is not in the Top 5. Don't these experts and pundits know that Team Maymon has arrived in Knoxville?

Though I did pull for him to be on Buzz's bunch, I think it was a good move he stayed at Memphis.
Ultimately, he wanted to be a head coach. I'd prefer a long-time assistant not someone whose eye is always outside the home program.

IMO, I think Memphis is going to be a tough team to play...with that said, it can go quickly down the tubes for him if he doesn't win games people *expect* him to win or if he struggles to get into the NCAAs...the recruits can easily leave him AND the program.
