Please don't blast me mu35577 ;), but I just saw Joe and Newbill (95% sure it was him) at OP. He is a big dude, no more than an inch shorter than joe. Thought some of you might like to know.
Most of the incoming frosh are Tweeting each other about when they're getting in...
I get the goosebumps just seeing it all!
Boot Camp videos and Midnight Madness can't get here any faster!!!
why would I blast such a credible source like yourself. Wadeworld had no evidence and no reason to say what he did. I would like to thank you for your post. Newbill will be great...
Hell yeah, DJ Newbill is here, ill be on the look out for the new recruits this weekend. A prime spot to see them is at daug haus or real chili

But the more entertaining spot to see them is murphys around 1 am
I believe that Newbill will help us, but how the hell will he get many minutes with all the Guards we have:
DJO; Bucyks; Caddy; Jones; Blue; Smith, etc.?
Jones is more like Butler... like a forward... a wing.
also, Newbill is a freshman, sometimes freshman don't get minutes.
I'm not sure that everyone on the team comes in expecting minutes. Probably expect that if they work hard they can earn minutes.

Do you actually think the 6/7-man rotation we saw last year was by design?
If Buzz can get production out of everyone, he'll find minutes for the whole bench.

What??
Welcome to MU DJN.
(Anyone got a better way to shorten his name? DJ, DJO, DJN?).

I'm a fan of Newbie since Cooby is graduating. I suppose I just like saying *oobie no matter what prefix it has.
Why is it that the recruits are on campus this weekend? Don't recall this type of thing happening before. Maybe it's an administrative thing or these cats are getting measured for new jockstraps.

Personally, I'm going with "Newbs" as his nickname.
Often fans see the Melo's, Wall's, Oden's, etc and assume that all Top 100 recruits are going to burst onto the scene as freshman and be major contributors. That's generally not the case. Look at a kid like SG Michael Snaer at FSU (a former MU recruit). He was a McD's AA and as a freshman he played 24 minutes/game and scored 9 ppg for a team that wasn't particularly strong at guard. IMO, that's a pretty good season for frosh. I'd be happy if Blue put up those numbers, however, I fear that if Blue has a similar season, many fans will think he's a disappointment because they're expecting him to be D-Wade right off the bat. Just look at the way some fans want to run off Erik Williams, a top 100 recruit with tons of potential, simply because he didn't get much PT.
I guess that point I'm getting at (in a round about way) is that Newbs might not be an instant contributor but that's not necessarily a bad thing and that doesn't mean we should write him off. Some guys take more time to adjust to the college game and to college life. There are also many, many cases where a player is good, but has better players blocking him from getting on the court. If Newbs averages 5 minutes per game next season, I'm sure there will be people on here claiming that Buzz is trying to run him off and that he's in over his head, etc. Give him some time. It's not just big men who require patience.
Bottom line: The kid can play.
He's from philly, the fresh prince of strawberry mansion?
Side note: Strawberry Mansion is a badass name for a high school

Word is that all 4 of the HS recruits (Blue, Jones, Smith and Newbill) will be on campus this weekend. Crowder is in Las Vegas for the NJCAA All Star Game.
Got that, but why? And who's footin' the bill for their ride in and stay?

If it is an official visit, it will be MU. I dont think Newbill or Jones (I heard his midnight madness visit was an Unofficial) have taken their officials to MU yet. I am not sure Reggie Smith took his official to MU either.

I'm worried people will write off Blue too early, too. He's still extremely young for his grade (will be 17 when he hits campus) and almost everyone has seen growing pains early when adjusting to Buzz' offense. He's got talent and I wouldn't be surprised to see him burst out of the gate strong, but if he's still adjusting at the beginning of conference play it shouldn't alarm anyone.
Newbill probably won't get much run early, but people should absolutely give him time. It's a luxury to allow someone like him to develop for a year or two and solidify a role on the squad as an upperclassman.
Also, I forget who came up with it, but I like "DJ-New" as a complement to DJ-O.

how about n00b instead.
how about strawberry shortcake?
Lots of guys had really nice careers at Mu and were integral parts of good teams without being superstars as Freshman. Joe Chapman and Wesley Matthews come to mind as do guys like Cordell Henry and Chris Crawford, Anthony Peiper, Tony Smith and many others.
Freshman that have big freshman years are either future NBA players or good players on terrible teams with a huge void of talent where they can step in and be the man. I am not sure if any of the incomeing recruits are future NBA players but I am sure they are not going to be on a terrible team with no surrounding talent.

They attend some classes and work out. Taking a class or two in the summer lightens the academic load during the regular year / season.

They're not here for the summer yet, just this weekend. They all still have to finish High School.

Saw DJ at the AMU today during lunch. Kid looks like an absolute beast.
What did he have for lunch?

Cardinals, Mountaineers, and an Orange. And some milk...in a dirty glass.
Looking forward to seeing the new recruits when I'm drunk at Murphey's tonight

In spite of the fact that he looked to be within an inch of Joe's height, I don't think that he's grown too tall to be tried at center.

Nice!!
Throw in a Wildcat & Huskie (sorry pet lovers) and we have a winner :D
I can't wait to see this kid develop in Buzz's system. He's a "big" perimeter player with a smoothe stroke.
I haven't heard much about his "first step" quickness or ability to finish inside, however.
Then again, that's probably not why he's on campus.

No. that razor thin rotation was thanks to Tanned Tommy's inability to recruit combined with is penchant for Creaning the undesireables
They never showed up at Murphs!!!! WTF!!! I went there just to buy them a shot.

Eight of the 11 scholarships on roster last season were brought in by Buzz.
Might as well blame Mike Deane too.
