Granted, he's discussing football but interesting nonetheless.

Q: How concerned are you about the shape of the Big East right now?
A: There's concern, but I can't consume myself with that because I have no control over it. The only thing I'm trying to do is to get our team ready to play this season, but there's very legitimate concern and however it unfolds is completely out of my hands as a coach. You have to trust the people from the Big East office and the people within our institution to go out and get the best situation for our university and for the Big East Conference.
Q: Should a football ultimatum be given to Notre Dame soon?
A: I think that's something the powers that be are discussing in terms of the strategies that they're looking at to be proactive rather than reactive.
Note: In a question-and-answer session with the audience, Edsall said the football coaches have been asking the conference to deliver an ultimatum to Notre Dame to come into the conference for football or get out entirely for the last two years. He added that, if as speculated, two teams leave for the Big Ten, "the Big East is all done."
Its about basketball as well. Losing 2 or 3 teams will change the BE forever.
This is total b.s. So Edsall is trying to tell everyone that the BE football schools are trying to nudge ND out of the conference and into the B10 so as to "save" the conference from further damage? In other words, Rutgers's football coach is trying to get ND to "take" their spot in the B10 as though they are not interested? Really? Rutgers football would rather see ND go than themselves? Pitt would rather see ND go than themselves? Syracuse would rather see ND go than themselves? No way.
Yesterday, ND's AD reiterated their desire to remain independent. More rumors are swirling that suggest it will be a 5-team expansion of Mizzou, Neb., Rutgers, Pitt and Syracuse.
So yeah, Edsall, put pressure on ND to join and take a spot from Rutgers/Pitt/Cuse....because any one of those three would much prefer to be left behind. I understand this logic works if its a 1-team expansion but it's not.

But it might be if they can get ND. Getting the Big Ten to take ND and be done might be the best option for the Big East.
