Very risky hire. How did hiring the hometown hero with no coaching experience work for Clyde Drexler in Houston? No bench coaching background, no recruiting background and he hasn't been a stunning success for the Wolves either. ISU is the only D1 program in the country that would have hired Hoiberg to be their coach. I guess their thinking is "at least he won't run off to Creighton."
Wow...the Mayor is set to take over at ISU. All I remember about him is that he used to absolutely kill from 3 in the NBA 2K series. Of course, that was the same video game where I had Damon Stoudamire averaging 30 points and 15 assists before trading him straight up for Kevin Garnett, so take from that what you will.
(Which, being a video game, is probably nothing...but any excuse to shout "THE MAYOR!!!" is good in my book)
As much as I loved "The Mayor" on the Bulls, it was mostly for the nickname. I can't think this is a solid hire when I once saw him try and intentionally miss a free throw by whipping it off the backboard, completely oblivious to the rule that it must hit the rim. Guys that screw up little things like that probably won't make very good coaches IMO (and his lack of success in MN).
he will really help them. The dude is a lights out shooter.
