Here's a sneak peak at Marquette recruit DJ Newbill. An in depth feature story is coming soon.

Really nice job. Thanks for posting that. Looks like DJ has a great work ethic..makes me think Vander Blue better be working just as hard. The beauty of singing both Blue and Newbill is they will make each other better, as they will push each other.
dwade mention - this kid will be ready
Awesome job. Thanks.
that was great. i'm very excited to see this kid.
Great to see. He looks like a bigger kid than I thought. He could play some 3.

Agreed, can't wait to see him here!
Very impressive commitment to the game by DJ. This could be interesting.
Welcome DJ Newbill! He is getting ready! Those crunches with 40 lbs looked agonizing. Yipes!
it was a 25 lb plate, but that would still be tough. the 36 in. box jumps holding the 25 lb plate were better to see. we need every inch of vertical leap out of all of our players.
Nice find. A lot of that stuff reminds me of the Crossfit workouts I've used to train for the Milwaukee Fire Department Academy. Great to see him working his tail off to get into shape for Fall.
I'm excited he is going to be a warrior in the fall.
That said, I'd like to see a better looking shot. ;)
Should we start a new thread on what everyone's favorite color of practice parachutes is between white, dark blue, baby blue, and yellow?
FEARLESS PREDICTION
Four years from now Indiana students at games will try to throw off the other team's foul shooters by holding up masks of DJ Newbill!*
*Instead of Dwyane Wade masks.
fantastic, if he is workin' that hard everyday he is going to be an absolute monster (physically) a beast when he gets to campus!

Fully agree with you...I really hope Vander Blue sees this video. I'm not sure what type of training centers there are in Madison, but from the Rosiak blog today...Vander going to 24 Hour Fitness and doing some cone work, etc..well good, doesn't seem like it would compare to what we saw in this Newbill video. I recall hearing Jmay pretty much wanted to go back to Madison during boot camp - I just hope Vander has a better training staff working with him, than did JMay. I love the idea of Newbill and Vander squaring off everyday..it will most definitely pay dividends for them individually in their development, and for the team.
Great video. Hope all the recruits and current players have the desire that DJ seems to have. But, did he call the MU coach Buzz "Wilson" (at about 3:35 in the video)? Sounds a bit mumbled, but that's what I keep hearing.

Sounds like a mumbled Williams to me.

Me, too.
Or was he saying Peterson?
Brad,
I assume that you are a MU broadcast major grad, and that you're doing this story as an addition to your work portfolio for when you apply for jobs. If so, I think that it looks professionally done and shows you off well, good luck.
One question though, just how many shortcuts do you have on your computer's desktop? I'm thinking that you must be close to some kind of a record.
I heard him say Williams. He looked bigger than I thought he was. I'm very excited for him next year. The more I read about him it sounds like he is a winner and has a great work ethic. I think Jones, Blue, and Newbill could be a pretty dynamic trio by their junior years. That also includes Cadougan running point and Smith working his way in there too. A healthy Otule will be a huge asset and I really think Williams is going to improve quite a bit. I've had high hopes for him since he committed. It's tough not to get too excited about the future and the players Buzz is bringing in.

I agree. I finally just had to give up on not getting excited about Buzz's recruits. Just trying to be funny, but
not sarcastic. Another point about Buzz's recruits that came up in the interview with Newbill is the family feeling that the team seems to have. I'd much rather have MU be thought of as a team not considered to not have as much talent as other programs (not that that is the only other option), but that out performs the expectations due to team chemistry, then to be a talent loaded team that underachieves because the player's egos clash.
Fair enough. Williams it is. Listening again (and again and again), I agree that he said Williams. And anyway, Buzz Williams...Flip Wilson, what's the difference?
