Anybody been watching? There have been some great games thus far. Had to feel for Nabakov sunday night played a great game, and was only beaten by a weird "own goal".
It is amazing that despite holding a 2-1 lead over the Blackhawks, Nashville still doesn't really seem to care.
Oh well, Crosby and Malkin are rolling so that's all I really care about.

Big Bruins fan, and they have finally been playing like they mean it. If you haven't tuned, I would recommend it, very chippy series and lots of big hits too.
Let's go B's!

Yeah. That series has been a little tough to watch. The Hawks can't seem to take advantage when they have momentum going against the Predators. Should be really interesting to see if the Hawks can get it together and move on. They really shouldn't be having this much trouble.
Also, the Bruins-Sabres series is great. I missed the first two periods but from what I saw, the game tonight that went into 2OT was awesome. Both teams playing very aggressive in the OT's and both goaltenders playing out of their minds throughout the entire game. I can't wait to see how this one ends if both teams continue this type of play.
I went to game 2 at the UC between the Hawks and Preds. For some reason the preds skated up and down the ice and made it more of a speed game...a game that the hawks will win!
Games 1 and 3 are slow paced hockey that the hawks either seem disinterested in or just don't know how to defend it. Looking at the stats, Byfuglien Bickell and Soepl have horrible +/- rating and really need to pick up their game.
Oh, and earth to Toews...lets put a puck in the net!
Pekka Rinne has been a monster so far for the Predators, but the biggest thing is the aforementioned lack of intensity. There were times in game 3 where Chicago suddenly turned it on and skated circles around Nashville, just didn't result in any lighting of the lamp. Hopefully, Game 3 was a wake up call and we will see a different fire tonite.

I wouldn't mind some goals from the 63 million dollar man Hossa either.....and the 6'5'' Rinne has played great.
Hawks are 3-1 favorites to win the Cup and the Predators are 40-1, dead last, to win the Cup.

Hossa has actually played quite well. I was impressed with his back checking, and his puck handling is always a step above the rest. They went down 2-1 to a better vancouver team last year, no reason they can't come back from this!

They definitely can come back...win tonight and they have home ice back. Hossa is a great all around player. I was just commenting on his lack of goal scoring is all.
Hossa said Wednesday. "The bottom line, I have to step up and make something happen. Obviously it's not easy. They're playing well defensively. But somehow we have to break that and put myself on the scoring sheet."
Ill be at game five in Buffalo for the Sabres vs. Bruins series Friday night. This series has been great but unfortunately for my sabres, they are not big enough to win this series. The Bruins have controlled the boards for most of the series. The Bruins are a solid team and to tell you the truth Tukka Rask has played better in net than Ryan Miller (if Miller doesn't let in that cheapie last night the series is tied 2-2). I am hoping Buffalo will pull one out Friday night but in my opinion the series is over. Buffalo will not beat Boston in three straight. O well, GO SABRES!

Last night, I was up in Milwaukee waiting for the Hawks game to come on but was forced to watch the Penguins-Senators game instead because it went into 3OT. It was pretty entertaining to watch but for awhile there, neither team could really get anything going and seemed out of gas. Good call by the refs though for calling that goal off early in tHe first overtime. Wish I had access to CSN up here though because I would have much rather watched the Hawks play.

Great atmosphere, but wow there were a ton of Blackhawk fans.
The 1st period was full of defense, and I still don't know what happend on that fluke goal.

My first reaction was, "wow, the Predators have fans?" Then, immediately thereafter, "Wow, that was some of the worst trash talking I have ever heard." I'm gonna pull the fire alarm? Are you serious?
That goal was nuts. Seabrook went to shoot it up the wall, it ricocheted off Kane's skate, and thats all she wrote. In terms of Rinne, that was just more evidence of goalies getting lazy and cheating on plays. He assumed a dump to the corner, so he went out to get it. Similar to when Fleury went to wait for the puck along the boards in Game 1 of the Pens-Senators series, the puck bounced out of the corner, and got put away into a wide open goal, and Fleury looked ridiculous.
Joe Pavelski from Plover Wisconsin is tearing it up. Not bad for a 7th round draft pick.

Since Gretzky left the Oilers, I don't think I have watched much more than the deciding game of the Stanley Cup Finals each year. Not that I watched hockey at all before he was in his prime. I have to admit, I have gone out of my way to watch a few Blackhawks games this playoffs. They have been fun to watch.
Of course, I pay for it later when that song they play after the Blackhawks score runs through my head, over and over, the rest of the night (and now the next day, since I reminded myself of it). Dun, da na na na na na, na na na na na na nump, na na.....

Despite being a huge Hawks fan, I will confess to not loving or really liking that song. However, come playoff time, I fully embrace it cause you can start singing it at any bar or public place and immediately be joined by multiple people. I was at the Cubs game last Tuesday, checking the Hawks game on my phone, and when they scored my friends and I starting singing only to have the entire section join in soon enough. It was grand.
With Philly in, this makes for quite an interesting matchup...
Never do I like to see a team play a goaltender they drafted and then traded. Add that he might be an even bigger brick wall than Niemi, this should be fun!

No sh;t. I love WI people trashing the Blackhawks and their fans. There are four generations of hockey fans in this town, they're an Original 6 franchise...you can google that if you don't know what that means.
As much as you hate to believe it they're not going anywhere for the next 10 years. BTW, the NHL is the professional hockey league played in the United States.
you're right, there are guys who know what original 6 means and those people are real fans. but all im saying is that your fanbase increased in size 10 fold over night. that's fair-weather-fandom.

Kinda like the Brewers right?
Except the Blackhawks were not accessible for years, not on TV years, played all of their games out of primetime, and had no investment in winning. All fan favorite players were alienated: Chelios, Roenick,Belfour, Savard, & Hasek.
How can you follow a team that isn't on TV, trades all of their good players & has one of the least likable owners in all of sports?
Exit Dollar Bill; enter Rocky.
2007, ComcastSportsnet starting showing home games when there wasn't scheduling conflict. Hull & Mikita were made Blackhawk ambassadors. John McDonough was brought into to revive the team.
The fanbase didn't tenfold overnight, but it has since 2007. Most games were sold out the entire season after tickets went on sale. TV ratings have been steadily increasing since 2007, and have exploded for the playoffs, make sense.
MarqPTM nailed it. Before Bill Wirtz died it was impossible to be a fan unless you had season tickets. The Hawks even started games later at 7:30 making it impossible to see footage or highlights on the 10 o'clock news. ESPN (in 2005 I think the year was) voted them the worst organization in all of sports because of Bill Wirtz.
Don't say everyone joined overnight lab warrior. The vast majority of people became fans again in 2007 and shortly thereafter when the old man died and his son Rocky took over.
The first thing Rocky did when he took over was immediately get the games on tv. That alone would have been enough but he kept going. The following year he brought Pat Foley back in. He started wecloming back legends to had been sent packing by Bill Wirtz years ago. He also brought in John McDoughnun who is one of the best marketing guys in all of sports. John was able to lock up a Winter Classic at Wrigley spreading the expousre even more.
The Blackhawks fandom was back and guess what lab warrior? All of this was 2 seasons ago.
98% of Blackhawks fans if not more were not fans 4 years ago. There was no way to be a fan. They did all come back in the last few years not because they are fair weather but because they can actually see the damn games.
Can you imagine if the Bucks or Brewers weren't on TV for a over a decade? What would happen to the fanbase?

crap, the City will take care of that themselves Bucks soon enough if they don't do something about the Bradley Center.
I will fully admit that I am a fair weather fan. As of about April 15th, all I knew about the Blackhawks was from the 10 second station ID's on WGN (720) during Cub games. "Huh, the Blackhawks games are on WGN too?"
Last night, I was whooping and swearing with each trade of goals. The last 20 seconds, my feet were nervously bouncing just like during an MU free throw attempt. It was a blast. I can't wait for the next game.

My family has had season tickets for over 30 years and I was lucky enough to be able see games at The Stadium with my Dad. Any city that goes to the finals has overnight fans coming out of nowhere, I agree with you about that. To follow up what PTM and TT had to say the swoon started in 2000 when Dollar Bill started to lose his mind and ran the team into the ground and ended when he died in 2007....the only down years in attendance and fan interest for the Hawks were between these years, which many people around my seats call the Dollar Bill senile years. As far as being fair weather you couldn't be more wrong...people just got sick of being screwed over and not appreciated as fans. The NHL lockout in 04-05 also did not help matters whith the fan base.

Did everyone catch Don Carcillo leveling his teammate instead of Tomas Kopecky?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQc1_V3M4G4
My father used to have season tickets at the Old Stadium in Chicago. When they built the United Center, traded away all their players (Roenick picked the Flyers because he has no respect for the org. since he got traded), and Wirtz gave the fanbase a universal finger is why many Hawks fans left. That being said many long time fans got rid of their tickets then, not because they were fair weather but because they couldn't support a team that didn't give a rat's a$$ about them.
If any city has fairweather fans it probably isn't Chicago fans as a whole given the lack of success as a city, looking past the Bulls championships in the 90's.

The back and forth between Carcillo and Kopecky in the first period was really interesting. That being said, Carcillo is a complete and utter douchebag. I've hated him before the Hawks and Flyers were even in this series. Unlike Pronger who I developed a strong dislike for since the series started.
On the other side of the coin, Toews composure is one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen on the ice. He is completely unflappable. I thought for sure when Pronger cross-checked him after the whistle that he would finally retaliate, but he just yelled a bit and skated off. Thats why he wears the C despite being young.

IMHO.
Sometimes though you need to do a little more than yell and skate off. Crosby, early in his career, seemed to take the Toews approach, but it seems in the past couple seasons he is more willing to mix it up and as a result seems to take less cheap shots.

That was awesome. I am not a serious NHL fan, so I had never heard of or seen Carcillo before last night. I know you are not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I think it took me about 3 seconds to dislike the guy. And by about 60 seconds into the game I knew my first instinct was correct. I was LMAO after that hit. Plus, the "Sounds of the Game" where the Blackhawks player yelled to him on the bench, "that is you best hit this year". You can see the conversation going on at the end of the video.
Absolutely classic.

IMHO.
Sometimes though you need to do a little more than yell and skate off. Crosby, early in his career, seemed to take the Toews approach, but it seems in the past couple seasons he is more willing to mix it up and as a result seems to take less cheap shots.
Idk, early in his career, Crosby avoided contact all together for the most part. Toews is a grinder behind the net and on the boards, and will dish out hits. Its just the extra-curriculars he seems to avoid and thats fine as there are plenty of others that will mix it up. He can stick to being a captain and staying on the good side of the officials. I'm ok with his demeanor.

Carcillo is a dirty goon of the highest order. A complete headhunter and a complete ass. He stopped and immediately jawed at Kopecky after laying out his teammate like a clown even though play was still live. I loved him going crazy with a deranged look on his face as Burish chirped at him. His hot head will lead to some stupid penalties if they keep him out there. And I am quite alright with that.
I think Burish's maniacal laughter during the free skate earlier in the clip was just as funny. What a character.
I also, despite him being a great player, think Pronger is a dirty douche as well.

You are probably right, I don't know know a lot of Toews or his style of play. The only thing I know about him is that I have been saying his name incorrectly for awhile now.

Especially during the Stanley Cup Finals.

That shirt is very applicable to a series against Philly as well ;D

The back and forth between Carcillo and Kopecky in the first period was really interesting. That being said, Carcillo is a complete and utter douchebag. I've hated him before the Hawks and Flyers were even in this series. Unlike Pronger who I developed a strong dislike for since the series started.
On the other side of the coin, Toews composure is one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen on the ice. He is completely unflappable. I thought for sure when Pronger cross-checked him after the whistle that he would finally retaliate, but he just yelled a bit and skated off. Thats why he wears the C despite being young.
Pronger rocks, if he's on your team. Loved him when he was on the Ducks. Was at game 5 when we clinched the Cup a few years ago and Pronger held up the Cup in front of us. Awesome guy to have on your team, not so awesome if he's on a team you're playing.

I've seen better shirts using that Photoshop filter.

Pronger is driving me nuts.....at the same time I can see how his teammates and fans love him.

His size is incredible, especially for a hockey player. When I worked for the Ducks, I was surprised how small many of the players were, especially guys like Kariya. I left the organization before Pronger came aboard, but met him a few years ago. For a man that size to be on skates and moving that fast, talk about a run away freight train. Scary

Imagine what happens when Big Buff runs into a man of that size....

More than just a hunch...he needs to set the tone early tomorrow night for his team and I suspect he will not disappoint Flyers fans.

Unfortunately I was flying home during the game on Sunday, however, my roommate left the TV on with the DVR paused to that spot. I think I watched it 5 times in a row at 130 in the morning.
