Christmas in April for MUScoppers! Now, let's see what Buzz leaves under the tree for us!
Signing Day isnt just today...the signing period lasts for 6 weeks. There is alot of time yet. Crowder and Newbill should sign today, but I would be careful to expect a whole lot beyond those two.
isn't davante gardner supposed to decide between MU and USF today according to that USF article that was posted the other day?

Yes
Based on Todd Rosiak's article in the Journal, Jae Crowder has been getting a lot of phone calls from other schools since Howard won the championship and Crowder got JUCO player of the year. He's holding to his commitment, but I'll still be relieved when his LOI comes in.

Yes
How serious are our chances for this guy, with no scholies available, and do we want him--how good is he?

That is a question I have as well. With guys like Cothron and Dieng seemingly interested, and possibly Desrosiers future in doubt at Wake, do we want to just grab whomever to boost the class? And where's the extra scholarship coming from? Is someone being rescinded?
I'm confident the coaches know what is going on with the current roster, as well as the incoming players. Because of what they know, they will recruit accordingly.
Not sure who Buzz sees as a priority, but when a player chooses to go elsewhere, dont always assume that the player chose X School over MU. It has to be mutual between both parties, and maybe the player was intereted in MU, but Buzz decided the player wasn't what he wanted.
I think we'll see the annoucements for Newbill and Crowder either today or tommorrow.
However, I don't think we'll see any other players announced this week, particularly if that involves someone leaving the program, as today is the basketball awards ceremony. I don't feel that Buzz is going to want to overshadow that event and the aftermath with the announcement that a player or two is leaving.
announcement for crowder has been released... welcome to MU Jae!
Yep Jae is official: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/news?slug=ap-marquette-crowder
Marquette has signed junior college player of the year Jae Crowder to a national letter of intent.
Coach Buzz Williams made the announcement Wednesday, saying Crowder will fill a hole left by the graduation of forward Lazar Hayward. He led Marquette last season with 18.1 points per game.
The 6-foot-6, 215-pound Crowder will have two years of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.
Crowder averaged 18.9 points to earn 2009-10 NJCAA Division I player of the year honors and help Howard College win its first title in men's basketball.
Previously, Crowder played at South Georgia Tech Junior College and was a prep star in Villa Rica, Ga.

That is a good point. Does that mean that if we don't hear about a guy like Devante Gardner, who said that he was going to sign today, that it may be because Buzz is holding off?
Some talk on a USF board (thebullspen.com) was saying he is expected to sign today but just saw this was posted.
We'll have more on USF's recruiting class later -- two more junior college standouts, Jawanza Poland and Hugh Robertson, are expected to sign today. The AAU coach for Virginia center Davante Gardner said Tuesday night that he likely will need a few more days before making a decision between USF and Marquette.

Obviously, in no way can this be considered good news for South Florida since he was expected to choose them today. Combined with Tanning Bed's and Sultan's comments, its enough to make one downright hopeful.
I may be completely off base with this, but my feeling is that he may be waiting for Buzz to decide which way he wants to go... Maybe I am just being a homer, but I wouldn't be surprised if he looked at MU as the better team with better potential, and an excellent opportunity for PT.
That said, may be a pretty hectic week for Buzz. Again this may be speculation, but I would doubt that Buzz wants to oversign by 2... Therefore, he may be waiting on a final decision from Mr. Dieng and Mr. Cothron before he jumps in on Devante... In the end, I would guess it would be between those three
I just hope we sign one of them and dont miss out on all three, although someone completely off the radar wouldn't shock me. The order of preference, IMO, is Cothron, Dieng, and then Gardner... I'd be happy with any of them though

My homerism post: Gardner might be "stalling" because Buzz doesn't want to overshadow tonight's ceremony by signing another player, thus inviting questions in regards to who might be leaving or if Smith is still coming to MU.

Don't forget Reggie Murphy, who'd I rather have then Cothron for sure.

Seriously? Reggie Murphy seems to me to be a project who may never develop. I could be wrong though, it happened once before. ;)

Cothron seems like a head-case.

This^^^^ Was about all I needed to see that there are many dominos about to fall - I would be shocked if we didn't see Cothron, Dieng, Reggie Murphy, all make their decisions in the next couple of days..my feeling is that MU is Gardner's #1 choice, and has been asked by Buzz to give him a few more days to just sort through all possible scenarios...

Actually it could have nothing to do with MU at all. I know that Gardner told people in South Florida that he was waiting for his teammate and best friend to pick a school so they could sign their LOI together.
One more thing, if it was up to Gardner he would be going to South Florida. However in recruiting there can be many voices, some stronger then others.
Davante Gardner's Facebook Wall (which is public) has an entry on Sunday that says "3 MORE DAYS!!!"...and nothing since. And this is after a rather detailed visit of his trip to USF where it is clear he had a good time.
Makes you wonder....

Davonte' Ox Gardner (don't forget the apostrophe.) You have to be logged on to read it of course.
Thebullspen had some info on it the other day and a little disscussion. Makes me feel great that this is looked at as a huge need for them where as it is someone we want (or some people want).

What do you base your above bolded statement off of? Are you a friend of Devante's? If it was such a slam dunk for him at South Florida, why delay the decision for 2 or 3 more days? Let me clarify that my point was speculation, as I just don't understand why Devante would hold off on signing with USF (good friend/teammate waiting to determine his school of choice aside) if he was fully ready to sign with USF. IF they want him, and he wants them - why wait??

Ok, I miss interpreted your statement. I thought you were hinting at he got in some trouble and maybe USF was backing off. When I hear recruit and detailed report of him "having a good time," I immediately think hostesses, parties, and celebrities. So good to clear up that misunderstanding on my part. Hell, if a good meal is this kids idea of a good time is Cheese Cake Factory, he sounds alright to me.

This sounds to me suspiciously like sour grapes from South Florida.
