Question:
Where would you rather see a big time recruit from Indianapolis go?
Option 1: To Indiana, make Crean better, but MU never sees him
votes: 53
Option 2: To Louisville, and see him every year and make beating them tougher
votes: 21
Just curious what the MU fanbase would rather see.
Neither. I'd rather he went to MU... ;)
If I had to pick of the two, I'd say Indiana. Honestly, I could care less about Crean. I was upset at first, but at the same time I felt a bit relieved. How many years had we gone through the "will-he-or-won't-he" carousel? Every season he was linked with whatever the hot job was, and all he did was use it to get bigger and bigger contracts here until he finally got the offer he couldn't pass on. It was a smart business move, but that's all he ever was. If he gets Indiana to a Final Four, he'd probably be out the door as soon as Duke, Kansas, or UNC came a'calling.
Could Crean have taken this year's team to the Big Dance? I highly doubt it. Despite having two future NBA players (Diener and Novak) he couldn't get Marquette further than the NIT in 04 and 05. I think that we got the better recruiter and the better coach in Buzz Williams. Honestly, if not for getting one stud recruit in Wade that no one saw coming, and one great class with McNeal, James, and Matthews, would his reputation have ever earned him a job like Indiana?
Good riddance to Crean, but if someone's going to get lucky with a recruit, I'd rather it be his Indiana side rather than a team we'll see every year. Crean means nothing to me anymore, other than a coach that helped us get back on course and paved the way for us to get a better coach in Williams.
Indiana, without question.
The posters who say otherwise are likely the same people who are Brewers fans but enjoy seeing the Cubs lose more than they enjoy seeing the Brewers win.
Louisville, no question. Just makes the Big East more of a Big Beast. If it makes the conference better, it makes us better. (eventually)
