I know his character was of question after the whole ref incident but it ashame to see another local product go out of state to a big program.

It is frustrating to see a highly regarded Milwaukee player leave the city to play at a school with a similar profile as Marquette - private, small school - but without the legacy of MU. Not sure if we offered this kid anway - so it may not really have been a situation where he chose Baylor over other schools. He may have rewarded Baylor with a verbal, if they were the first to offer. As we know, verbals aren't always final. Additionally, Winters may have looked at the MU roster/incoming recruiting class, and figured there may not be a lot of PT available - as he'd probably be competing with Jamail Jones and Newbill.

After the incident last month, I suspect Winters decided to just get away from home...?
Something strange here. On the Baylor board there are several of their more respected posters who state that not only has Winters not committed, they haven't even offered him a scholarship yet.

Per Telep's twitter, it is not true:
"This commitment is false. Didn't happen http://www.jsonline.com/sports/preps/90186222.html"
Strange deal. I wrote a story yesterday on WisSports.net with comments from Quevyn's AAU coach saying it did happen. There are lots of direct quotes in my story from Anthony McHenry of the Milwaukee Spartans on the commitment.
As for Marquette, the staff liked Quevyn but had not offered. I doubt an offer was forthcoming as the staff is targeting several other players at his position, including Brandon Dawson.
I don't know if anyone saw this a while ago on ESPN, but it reminds me of it. It's an Outside the Lines segment. It's probably not exactly the same situation, but again, it reminds me of it:
Nevada HS Football Player Commits to Cal (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=32360392)
Are we really missing anything? The kid is a two star prospect at a position where we are loaded with talent. While I understand people want to see local products go to MU its not going to be beneficial overall to the university to limit ourselves to a regional mentality. The world is full of talent and we should go after it no matter where they might be.
