The freshman all-Americans John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins are among five Kentucky underclassmen who declared for the N.B.A. draft. The junior forward Patrick Patterson, the freshman guard Eric Bledsoe and the freshman center Daniel Orton are also entering the June 24 draft.
I don't get it. Why would you want to go to the NBA and take a pay cut?
Why would Orton go? He has the physical frame, but he barely saw the court this year. He could benefit quite a bit financially if he waits until he can sniff out some consistent playing time.
Not all of these guys will make it. Orton needs way more seasoning.
You are right about the paycut, but the benefits are better. Per diems, more roadies, gunsmiths, better drug policies, etc.
I think part of it is that these guys are seriously worried about playing time next year. I'm not looking at the recruit list or anything right now, but Cal is pretty much rotating in a whole new crop of guys. If you are being told you're a first rounder (Chad Ford has all 5 in the first round right now) and you are worried about being yesterday's news, I could see it. And it might be a legitimate fear given that Cal probably told his entire new flock that they too can/will be one and dones.
Say hello to Knight, Selby, Leslie and Lamb.
It would have been nice to see some of these kids choose the BE conference as a home.
Knight has Syracuse and UConn on his list.
Selby has UConn on his list and actually didnt receive interest from Syracuse despite playing on Team Melo.
Leslie has....umm...Seton Hall on his list.
Lamb has WV, UConn, Pitt and St. Johns on his list. Again, Syracuse turned down this guard as well.
UK is really beating out the entire BE conference.

you forgot to cite Deadspin
At least if Calipari gets caught doing something illegal, Kentucky won't be stripped of a Final Four.
Just heard on espn that Willie Warren is declaring for the draft and hiring an agent. WTF? He was better as a freshman when he played second fiddle to Griffin. He was awful this year.
