Here is a prime example of why you can't give up on guys like Otule or Yous. He was a waste of space his first 3 seasons. Now, he is not a star but he IS a game changer. And all of those other cinderellas who had the bigs that we are jealous of.....they are all upperclassmen. They all took time to develop. Almost all were not highly thought of out of high school. I don't know if either Yous or Otule will develop. I do know we need to be patient.

Not sure if it helps or hurts your argument but I think he was a 5 star too

It doesn't help his argument since his developmental curve was much shorter than Mbao's or Otules.
Bah, Zooblech.
This is the only season Zoubek has been healthy. No way Otule or Mbao sit out for most of their first three years and contribute like this.
Zoubek did not "sit out most of his first 3 years" because of injury.
He played in 32 games a frosh, 25 as soph, and 36 as a junior(17 starts).
My bad. I thought he sat out more for his broken feet than he actually has. I still don't think Otule or Mbao will get to the level Zoubek is playing at now, but I'd love to be proven wrong.
zoubek should foul out in 10 minutes if the game is called fair.
Zoubek is one of the hardest players to watch in college basketball, and he definitely should have fouled out for clearing Howard out of the stadium towards the end of that game.
Zoubek hitting that free throw at the end cost me $1000 in a squares pool, not only do I think he is clumsy, but now I can't stand him.
I don't know how that guy doesn't get called for moving screens every play...I Tivo'd him about 10 times in slow mo and at the end of every screen he does a little hip check into the defender.
Its a nice play to get Scheyer and Singler open for a 3....
Zoubek, like many other Dukies, is a big hack. His offensive game is HORRIBLE and he is nothing but a DOG. This guy is nothing but a bum out there. He works hard and gets some rebounds on an OVERRATED team. Big frickin deal. Quit talking about this guy and turn the attention to some other bball players that deserve some credit. This guy sucks!!!! Real talk.
Take the Duke hating out of it. He changed the game when he was in and controlled the boards. And the Dukies were complaining for 3 years that he was a bust. Bigs take time. Amal could barely walk and chew gum when he arrived on campus. It took him a couple of years. There were those who thought he should have been starting in front of Jim Mc by the time he was a junior and big Mc was a senior. They were wrong, but the point is that you have to be patient with bigs.
How is a National Champ overrated?
If O'toule and/or Yous are able to use their arms to clear guys out of the way and never get called for it, getting every offensive rebound...then we'll be in good shape.

Zoubek certainly pushed the line clearing people out down low, but Lazar made good use of that technique this year too.

Everybody who's anybody knows the only reason Duke won was because of the soft bubble.
It looked to me like Butler was hanging on him like Lamprey eels. I started out the game neutral/leaning toward Butler, but the officiating was so egregious in Butler's favor I found myself rooting for Duke for the first time in years.

I would have loved to have him on MU this year.

True...but he would only average about 3 minutes per game due to foul trouble.
Give him credit though, if they're going to let you get away with pushing and grabbing and hacking, then you should go ahead and push and grab and hack.

We must have been watching a different game. I'm one of the rare non-Duke alums who kind of likes Duke (primarily because Coach K grew up not far from me) and I thought there were some interesting calls that went Duke's way. Actually, it was mostly the non-calls I saw that went Duke's way.
Although I do like the Hayward kid on Butler, there were several times where he pretty much pushed open the lane for an easy layup for Butler. It's always interesting to just watch certain players off the ball, thats when you notice who gets away with what.

I don't hate Duke either. I was watching it from a neutral standpoint and thought that Butler was a bunch of hacks. But the refs didn't call it, so it must not have been a foul.

There was one play in the first half where Hayward put both hands on Zoubeks back and literlally threw him out of bounds to get an offensive rebound. the then ran to the basket while taking 4 steps before getting tied up. they missed the shove, and were the only 3 guys out of 70k to miss the travel...at least they got the tie up right.
And i was rooting for Duke, maybe for the first time. Not sure if any posters know any Butler alums but they truly think they are Duke, or HArvard, or at least the best school ever. If they won a title they would be absolutely unbearable, i have two Butler neighbors that have been simply obnoxious the last 4-5 years. The last 4-5 years after losing they just want to spew graduation rates.
Zoubek had his good moments but he also had some really bad ones. 5 feet from the hoop with the ball with a short player defending him and he looks to pass out. He was brutal in space when Butler forced him to defend away from the hoop. If Howard doesn't get in foul trouble, Butler wins going away.

I know about 100 alums. They are all down to earth, passionate about basketball, and were happy as a clam (how happy can a clam be, but I digress) their team made the Final Four. Not sure why your neighbors are d-bags....could be that you bring out the best in them :D

Actually they are nice people and I enjoy them as neighbors so maybe I was ovverly critical. However, they both seem to always want to compare themselves to MArquette, ie we are better than you and we are a better school than you. When I bring up the BE or the 3 final 4's and 2003 they then typically defer to graduation rates. Now my guess is they are reading the exact same articles as everyone else that annually anounce MU and Butler as two of the few schools that graduate 100% of there players but they must gloss over the MU part. I feel no need to argue that "so does MArquette". it 's just annoying, My guess is Hoya fans heard from Mason fans for a short while about how they were better, too. Dumb
I was surprised that when Zoubek came back in with around 10 minutes left and 4 fouls Butler didn't do anything to try to foul him out. I would have put Jukes in for a while like they did earlier in the game and draw Zoubek out on the perimeter. Drive him, shoot over the top of him and pump fake him. Get him out on the perimeter and make him uncomfortable. I don't remember Duke ever really adjusting well to that. I could be wrong. Probably better coaches to second guess at this point in time than Stevens.

A very good point. I have yet to hear anyone saying that this Dukie team is one for the ages. If that smack starts coming down the pike, then we can discuss overrated.
