I have never received any correspondence from any President of MU until today. I have copied the body of Fr Wild's critical message. Information this important must be shared:
Dear Friends:
I'm often impressed by the creativity and innovation of our Marquette students. And, I must add they have fun along the way! There's a group of sophomores, in particular, who I thought you might like to see. They call themselves the Spanish Odonnells and they just created a clever video to thank our generous benefactors and raise additional support of scholarship aid, one of my favorite initiatives. You'll recognize many familiar places on campus and I hope you'll consider showing your support for scholarship aid and today's outstanding Marquette students.
To view this clever video, click here.
Bob Wild, S.J.
President,
Marquette University
I thought the message was written by Nick Lachey not Fr. Wilde.

I've looked at the email headers .. sent through MailChimp, which is a list manager, but the $64k question is .. Does MU use that service? Or is this a hoax?
I got the same email too, never got one in the past either.
it's weird, I've never gotten an email like this from MU before, nor have I ever seen Fr. Wild sign his name "bob".
Is that new?
I get Mu emails from a number of different departments. I got this as well.
I looked through a couple, and his retirement announcement was actually signed Bob Wild. Most of my MU stuff comes from mu.edu, although occasionally one has come from marquette.edu, so I don't really know what to think.
Do you think the Spanish OD's got permission from Tom Petty to use the "Free Fallin'" riff at the beginning of their little ditty?
DMCA violation!

Huh, never noticed that he signed stuff "bob".
Learn something new everyday.
Could be a joke...it is April 1 ;D

Its actually a, for lack of a better work, "rip-off" of a more recent rap song that samples Free Fallin'.
be careful.
it looks and smells like a phish.
i wouldn't click the video link if i were you. i replied to the address that sent it (after i validated that it was real), and told them exactly what i just said here. if i get a reply that confirms its authenticity, i'll let you know.
malware, trojans and other nasty critters can hide in video links.
It's on MU's twitter feed, I think it's official.

It is official. Not a hoax.
then i stand corrected.
i will add that it was spectacular it in its poor execution. i've gotten plenty of emails from marquette and this one was just so poorly done, that it tripped all the red flags for me.
...still not clicking that link. :-\

The last time I clicked a suspicious link, I spent a week not doing useful work, but trying to get my computer up. I only got it up when I bought a new hard drive, and started from scratch. (Virus was well hidden in the boot sector).
So, anytime anyone thinks a link might be suspicious, a heads up is always appreciated.
Thanks RBSC!
