Oregon Ducks Basketball Forward Jamil Wilson says he's out at Oregon per his Twitter account. Ernie Kent was a big reason he signed.

Per his Twitter account at least...
https://twitter.com/BigKOR/status/11314718092 (https://twitter.com/BigKOR/status/11314718092)BigKOR asked Dang..so you're out at Oregon?
https://twitter.com/LimajNosliw21/status/11314652090 (https://twitter.com/LimajNosliw21/status/11314652090)Jamil's response - yes sir
When's he signing with MU? Do we have to wait till April 14th?
If he can play, I'll take him. Everyone is good for one mistake.
Come on home Jamil and your family can now watch you play in person. You can compete for Jimmy Butler's spot after he graduates and contend for a Big East Title in 2011.
Hang on here guys.
The Yes Sir post wasn't in response to the out at Oregon question. The Yes Sir was in response to whether or not he was back in Wisconsin. Jamil hasn't responded to the question of whether he's out at Oregon.

The Oregon premier board reporting he's leaving, unless they are going on the same data source.

That seems to be the only source at this point.
I suppose you could say he's not staying at OU since classes for their third trimester started yesterday and he's in Wisconsin.
Hold on to your hats! This is gettin' interesting...
Just to be clear, does a transfer count toward a schollie next year (when he sits out)? Does someone from next year's team have to go to make room?
Yes, a transfer that sits out counts toward a scholarship, so we would still have to find room.
Maybe he's transferring to UW.
Am I missing something or is Jamil Wilson just "another one of those 6-6 types that we already have a plethora of. WE NEED A BIG MAN"?

6-7, and he wouldn't be able to play til 2011 when JB and JF would graduate. I'll take him. I just don't know who to drop... Yboa, Newbill...?
Wouldn't it be funny if he went to play for that other guy.....Tom Izzo

That ship sailed when Wilson chose to blow off a meeting with Buzz and then Buzz announced that he was no longer recruiting Wilson. He's not coming here. The mistake was blowing off the meeting. Going to Oregon was a consolation prize for Wilson after MU stopped his recruitment.

Exactly. If we're going to get another one, we can recruit a better one for 2011 who will have four years of eligibility without wasting a scholarship next year to do it. At least once he goes elsewhere *maybe* people can drop it after a good three years of hearing about him.
Take a look again guys. This was not the breaking of the story of his transfer.
He finally responded to the guy's question about him leaving Oregon by saying he was on break, not that he's transferring, and it appears he's now in the airport on the way back to OU.

The twits and the internets are wrong? LOL.
So when the Twitter says Crean is being replaced by Brad Stevens later tonight or even next week......well, you get the idea.

Must be nice to be able to just hop on a plane and fly to Milwaukee in order to take a break. Especiallly while classes are in session. Maybe he doesn't have classes Mon thru Weds.
any shot we find a way to land dawson for 2011?

Hold on...he didn't blow off a meeting with Buzz. He was in a boys v ball tournament that ran late...at least that is what I read here. Buzz overeacted...then retracted...but by then that ship had sailed.

Disagree. Jamil is a baller, I want MU to have ballers. Find a spot if he wants to come.
Awesome...now if he can just sign with us...if that can be made possible!!!
And in his latest update, Jamil clarifies that he's not leaving Oregon, he was just home for spring break...

Not that one person should be a program maker, but Dawson is the real deal.
God, I hate twitter.

Who is this Dawson character that I keep hearing so much about? Is he a local kid?
Branden Dawson, 6-6 wing from Lew Wallace in Gary. Watched him at the State Finals. The kid is E-Twaun Moore, plus 3 inches.
edit: for the Crean Bashers:
The scholarship Indiana coach Tom Crean offered Branden Dawson earlier this year came packaged with lofty praise.
"He called me a Dwyane Wade look-alike," Dawson said.

You'd think that after Crean tricked Bobby Capabianco with that line, it would have lost something.

Maybe he was twitting on his way back because spring break at Oregon ended on Sunday 3/28/10. The tweets are confusing and non-comprehensible.
here is what I predict will happen: Newbill is going to take the JuCo/Prep school route because his grades can't cut it. that frees up a spot for Wilson.
Also heard that Yous' parents are pretty well off and are willing to pay is own way. Also freeing up a scholarship

I thought Newbill had already qualified academically.
Don't forget about the mystery 6'10" 280# guy we are supposed to getting.
I have no idea why someone would comment on a high school basketball player's academic standing. The only public comment Newbill has made is that he got a qualifying score on his ACT.
Kids cannot apply to the clearing house until after they finish high school. When kids say they are qualified it generally means that they have gotten a certain score on the ACT and SAT.
Ari I would edit your post.

All Ari did was be Swami Ari and make a prediction. He didn't say he's heard Newbill's grades won't cut it. No different than saying he predicts Newbill won't be as good as VBlue. His prediction may turn out to be 100% wrong, but that's all it was.
Quote from: MU_B2002 on March 31, 2010, 10:30:11 AM

From jsonline, in an interview with his coach:
Were there any other Big East schools that expressed interest aside from MU and West Virginia: "Rutgers, Seton Hall made inquiries but didn't offer. The only reason why D.J. didn't sign early with schools like West Virginia, Nebraska, Florida State was because he'd never taken the SAT. We put him in an SAT tutoring course on Dec. 5 for the first time ever he scored like a 1220, 1240 or something. He pulls a 2.6-2.8 GPA coming into his senior year, and that should increase dramatically because he's on the ball in the classroom, so he should end up with a 3.0 or above GPA. So he's more than qualified. But he qualified in December, and that's when a lot of other schools started calling.
Edit: Ari, stay out of the predicting business. Or at least go to this new website, called Google

Indiana kid that is likely going to Purdue but there are others heavily involved, including MU, IU, Georgetown, Ohio State, etc. He's a stud. The Indiana classes of 2011 and 2012 are loaded with a lot of good players at various positions.

Surprise, surprise. Gonna get as much mileage out of D-Wade as he can. I don't necessarily blame the guy- after all D-Wade is the best asset TC can leverage - his own coaching skills, not so much. If D-Wade weren't at MU, there is no way we go to the Final Four, and more than likely wouldn't have advanced out of Round 2...after all TC never got us to a Sweet 16 without D-Wade, while getting us bounced in the First Round against Tulsa, Alabama, Michigan State.
The difference is this is a Marquette basketball blog, so discussing basketball would genrally be excepted. This is not a blog that was set up to discuss people's grades and academic standing. 2nd I hope that when people make predictions this is based on some info that they have gathered, either by reading evalutions, watching Video or watching a player live.
This kind of thing is why Vander decommited from Wisc. People were discussing things and making predictions when they had no educated idea of what they were talking about.

A) we're discussing basketball player's grades. isn't that something that should be brought up on a basketball message board?
B) I made a prediction, if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. Indeelaw seems to have already disputed what I said. I'm certainly not the first to suggest that a player that we have recruited will not be on the team come fall.
C) so if a player De-commits it's my fault?
It would have been pretty sweet if when TC pulled out the DWade line( for probably the 100th time) Dawson would have answered....."Thanks coach....I love DWade....thats why I'm pretty sure I'm going to Marquette!"
;)

No. Discussing grades is one thing if there's actual substantial evidence of issues out there. Speculating about grades when there has been absolutely no indication in that direction, especially specifically mentioning a player and possible grade issues by name is wrong. It makes you and the fan base as a whole look bad.
Did you learn nothing from Vander Blue?

To a 17 year old kid that's being talked about there often isn't. Vander didn't talk about just the reporter, he talked about the fan comments that blasted him and talked about his supposed academic problems, the same way you are doing.

I will answer A. They are if you actually have evidence to suggest that the grades are poor or that he will not qualify. The only evidence that you have seems to have been pulled out of your a**. It's a cop out to say "well, it was only a prediction."

Some comments from Jamil Wilson on coaching change and transfer option.
Here's the article, found by nyg so no one has to search the northstarball site:
Oregon Freshman Jamil Wilson Awaiting Word on New Coach
Jamil Wilson was a highly-touted member of the class of 2009 from Horlick (WI) and was a big pickup for Oregon last year. A Jordan Brand Classic All-American last year, Wilson averaged 4.7, 3.2 rebounds, and 1 assist in 16.9 minutes per game during his freshman year.
When I interviewed him at the Jordan Classic, he cited the Oregon coaching staff and where the program was trying to go as a key part of his decision. "It's kind of a rebuilding process and I want to be part of it. . . . Hopefully we can make a run [and also] . . .the coaching [staff] was great too."
Well, in Wilson's first season at Oregon, the rebuilding process did not go as well as hoped, and Ernie Kent has been fired. Now Wilson is unsure of what his future holds at the Pac-10 school.
"I haven't really thought about it as leaving or staying. Of course people ask, but it's more [that I am] anxious to see who the new coach will be," said Wilson of whether he plans on staying at Oregon.
Although Wilson was not happy that Kent was fired, he understood why it happened. "It was tough, but it's a business, you know."
The versatile forward is not sure who he wants to see replace Kent as the leader of the flock in Eugene. "I haven't been following the candidates," said Wilson.
Asked if his decision to either stay at Oregon or leave for another school will be based off who is hired as the head coach, Wilson responded, "Probably so."
Should Wilson opt to leave the school, he will have to formulate a list of schools he is interested in, something he has yet to do. "No, I haven't really thought about that route yet."
Despite the Ducks' struggles and departure of Ernie Kent, Wilson has enjoyed his first year at Oregon, both on and off the court. "Not bad at all, real mellow, laid back. The town is very nice, people and everyone are pretty supportive of the sports, so it's good."
If Wilson does choose to stay in Eugene, he a lofty goal for the remainder of his tenure. "Just try and be one of the best to ever be here."
Modified to give nyg credit for finding the article.
I just noticed that his stats for his freshman year are very similar to those for JMay in his nine game MU career. Min 16.9 to 16.3
