Title: How many "finishers" does MU have next year?
Post by: M@RQUETTEW@RRIORS on March 26, 2010, 12:27:58 PM
When I say finisher I mean this:
A player that can take the ball and finish with a dunk if he has a half step on the defense.  Be it from his own drive or a drive by someone else that caused a help defense situation.

The reason I ask this is I have seen on several occasions the past few years where the MU players have had to try to lay the ball up when they have beaten their defender but only by a slight amount, only to miss the lay in because of the defensive pressure.  When MU is in this situation defensively it often has ended with opposing team slamming one in our face.  These are points that could really help.

it certainly looks like for freshman Vander, Reggie, and Jae could do this. Jimmy could obviously do this as could Fulce and Erik Williams IMO. DJO also has done this in some games this year. I don't think with the height next year we will see many fast break missed lay ups like those that Acker often had. I noticed late in the year that he was probably around 4 for 10 on those fast break lay ups

She should bring in Kyra "The Closer" Sedgewick.  I can feel my balls shrink as I post this.

The type of player you describe is usually a 6'7" - 6'9" type player, that just looks the part.  Think of Fulce, with an inch or two more, and a bit more explosion.  There are guys who can jump well, and measure a nice vertical, but are not explosive, quick-twitch leapers. (Fulce).  The opposite of this (Fulce) would be a Stanley Robinson from UCONN It also helps if the player has big hands and can easily palm the basketball.  All this being said, I don't see any of these type of guys on MU's roster for next year..Erik Williams might possibly develop into this type of player..as he's got the height and length - the explosion could well be there by junior/senior season.
