Title: ** MU Scoop - Technical Difficulties **
Post by: reinko on March 23, 2010, 08:06:39 AM
First time ever on my computer today,a pop up stating, elements from site 79.135.152.25, appears to host malware.

Using Google Chrome, on my Windows desktop running XP.

Just wanted to give the mods a heads up.

All of the text on scoop (an only scoop) is coming in at double it's normal size.  In addition my avatar isn't displaying.  I am getting the red x instead.

This this just me?

I have no idea what you are talking about, but for some unknown reason, everything I type is sarcastic

It isn't just you.  James Cameron has claimed our avatars were all copyright infractions, and therefore stolen them back.

I'm getting a malware warning too.  Stupid me decided to disable my scanner because I'm a scoop addict.

I'm getting the same thing from two different computers and can only access Scoop through my BB.  What's going on?

No issues on SuSE Enterprise 10 along with Firefox 2.0.  Konqueror on SuSE works like a champ too.  It could be Windows-specific scripts?

Running Windows XP with Firefox 3.6 in a VM I can't get to the muscoop index.  Same with IE 8 on XP.  This is true whether I'm authenticated or not.  Clearing cookies and cache didn't help.

Chrome gets to the index fine on XP, but blows up when I try to authenticate.  After authentication if I take the arguments off of the url and just point back to the site index I can browse around (as an authenticated user) without issue.

Edit:  Yes the website has been comprimised.  This is a link to an explanation of the script being run (http://kingofthenerds.wordpress.com/2008/01/10/malicious-javascript-documentwrite-unescape/).  If anyone gets any popups trying to sell you virus protection or scans or anything of the sort DO NOT CLICK THEM!

Firefox looks fine .. I do see that odd javascript at the top of view source, though, and I can't believe that should be there.

So .. the $64k question .. is that being served by scoop, or is something screwy with our clients?

My IE8 does display the text at double-sized font.

Have alerted Rocky and Spiral to deal with this.

Indeed, there is something very screwy going on, with the display and posting of messages.
Title: is anyone else still having problems with scoop?
Post by: Lighthouse 84 on March 23, 2010, 09:59:03 AM
I still get Malware errors when I try to access Scoop on my computer and can only access the site through my Blackberry.  Then, I tried to access the previous thread and it said I didn't have authority to get into the thread.  Now,  the other thread is gone completely!  What's going on?  Anyone else still have the problem?

But everything else seems to work fine.

Thanks for the detective work - I've sent the link on to Hostgator to see if they can help out.

Sorry for the problems folks...

Well my comp got hit from the malware and now i have some sort of program continually telling me i need to purchase their software in order to remove potential viruses.  It took the place of my windows security center and I have no idea how to get rid of it.

Download and install AVG Free-edition (http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?part=dl-10044820&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlPid=11014801).  They'll try to sell you their more expensive products, but there's no need.  It's free for forever and it should clean your computer right up.

I fully concur with all the above AVG recommendations - great free program, and kept me from accessing the site this morning (even when I wanted to!).  Occasionally they do "pester" you to buy the "professional" version, but you don't have to, and the free version has never let me down.  Again...the download link is:

http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?part=dl-10044820&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlPid=11014801

Which should install, and remove the malware for you.

Add Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to that list of good anti-virus programs.

If any of you guys did get Malware that program should take care of it.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/  The free version works just as well as the full version.  It doesn't have real-time protection, website scans, a scanner and update scheduler, or priority customer service.

Edit: I use this along with AVG Free.
