BO Ryan
QuoteWisconsin doesn't get the blue-chip recruits, so maybe this is the way they have to play. But if Ryan took off the restraints, you have to wonder if he'd get better recruits.
Love it!!!
QuoteNor are they going to entertain. If your idea of a good day is spending it on the couch, watching teams go up and down the court, don't watch the Badgers. If you appreciate players doing exactly what their coach says, rigidly so, then the Badgers are for you.....and he might get to the Sweet 16, which he's done three times, but they aren't winning it all with this system.
Now I wonder if the Bucky fans will finally see why Vander and others like him want no part of "this system?"
;)

Incorrect. Bo could easily get better recruits if he wanted to. He enjoys the challenges of making it to the final four without all that top rated talent.
QuoteForty minutes of hell has a new meaning watching them play. Mainly because that's what it is.
But what the article fails to mention are Badger fans are interesting subjects.
They are content and satisfied with a top 5 Big Ten finish, and with 1 or 2 wins in the NCAA tournament, they don't need anything else.
They don't know what success is if it smacked them in the face, they think this is success to the fullest.
I'm as big of MU fan as most all of us are on MUScoop, but I will say that I personally would be happy and satisfied with continued NCAA tournament appearances and Sweet 16 appearances. If we can get to an Elite 8 or Final Four 1 time per decade, I'd be very happy. I think with Buzz we can be this type of program, perhaps even better to where we are an Elite 8 type program 3-4 times per decade. That is plenty good for me...so I won't ridicule Bucky and their Sweet 16 appearances of the last decade. Decent run for sure

My brother is a UW alum and a big UW fan. After Davidson, he was crushed. After Cornell, he was pissed.
Not that Bo is going to lose his job, but I think people are really starting to question a few things after this one.

I totally agree. I'm not about to open my mouth just yet and start ridiculing their system that has seen better results in recent years.
This writer is an idiot. Who is he to say Bo Ryan can't finish-he won 4 titles in Divison 3 before taking over at Wisconsin. Every year Wisconsin starts unranked and picked to finish in the bottom half of the Big Eleven and he ends up in the top 3 or 4 teams every year. Also, the man doesn't lose at home, his win percentage at Wisconsin at home is around .950 or something ridiculous and knocked off 3 top 5 teams this year at home that are all still in the tourney. I'd take that here at MU instead of losing at home to ND and NC State.

Bo has made the tourney all 9 of his years there but only once has he beaten a higher seeded team (FSU), an elite 8 in 2004-05 and a sweet 16 loss in 2007-08. I can see why badger nation wants a little more tournament success

An MU fan with his first post defending Bo Ryan.
Surely you jest.

1-7 against seeds 8 or higher. That's not a fluke, that's a pattern.

Welcome to the boards, when we want to be sarcastic or make a joke, we use teal or [sarcasm] [/sarcasm]
I'm not sure where there's sarcasim or a joke, those are facts. And I never post anything because I usually just read for leisure. I just don't get the hate that a lot of Marquette people have for Wisconsin. We play once a year and its always a good game and we aren't in the same conference. I root for Wisconsin every game of the year outside of the 1 game they play us. I'll focus my hate more on G'town, Nova, ND and Louisville.

Because a loss to UW-GB is much better... get out of here Bucky
And if you didn't know.. MU was picked to be 13th in the Big East... finished 5th, I would say thats a bit overachieving for the Golden Eagles.. but who am I to judge, I should just bow down to Bo Ryan, who won 4 titles at my alma mater, granted all were over a decade ago, but you know, same crap... is Jerry Tarkenian still around, I heard he can finish seasons out... I mean he did a good job at UNLV

The fact you put G'Town and 'Nova in there over, I don't know, Cincinnati or DePaul is very telling.

I think what you meant to say was:
Bo gets poor recruits so every year they are picked to finish in the bottom of the conference. He's very good at developing players to play in his system, so they typically finish in the top tier of the B10. Much of this success has to do with with the fact that UW has a huge home court advantage. This is great for B10 winning percentage, but because of their lack of talent and no home court advantage in the tourney WI has a hard time beating solid teams and the chance they ever make a deep run in the tourney with a chance at a championship is unlikely under Bo.
