Is anyone watching Nova - St. Marys. This guy is unbelievable.
He's been that way all year long, just doesn't get the press because he plays on the west coast.
It's a guard's game
When the game is called in such a way where Nova can't get to the line on a consistent basis, I'm not surprised by the outcome.

That's only partially true; if he played at UCLA or AZ, everyone would know about him. The bigger reason for his relative anonymity is the conference he plays in and the school he plays for.
That being said, most college hoops fans I know are familiar with him and they're all east of the Mississippi.

Agreed, anyone that plays for UA or UCLA will get more props. But even those kids from UCLA it seems in traditional years the east coast folks are like "wow, didn't know that kid was that good".
The kid plays like punk. That St. Mary's team rubbed me the wrong way, I look forward to Baylor dropping a hundo on them next weekend.

Just ask Greg Monroe, UNC and Uconn.
ask nova.
You NEED big men/dominant front courters as much as you need good guard play.
Nova had the latter as King is not much of an inside presence.
Disappointed not shocked they list to SMC aka Australia's team.

I know....you need both. Tons of great guards out there, very few great big men and they ain't coming to Marquette for the last 25 years.
Then again, last year if you "asked nova"....they were in the Final Four. Works both ways.

Going to have to change that or perennially sit home on the second weekend.

Glad I wasn't the only one. Maybe it is because I was cheering for Nova, but I didn't really like Samhan. He seemed kind of like Harangody to me. I found him annoying and kind of cocky (shushing the crowd in the middle of the first half), however if he was on MU I would probably love him. Also number 4 bugged me, maybe it was the mouth guard or the jersey that was like 3 sizes too big. Either way, they have played two good games and are moving on.

Dude was a 2 star recruit...pudgy, redshirted freshman. Otule = Jay Whitehead? ;D
Tough way for redding and reynolds to end their careers. Nova and MU just hit some bad luck and ran into underdogs from the west coast. The espn east coast media machine forgets about the west every year.

I don't know but it sure seems like Nova's issues went deeper than that. Starting with Reynold's benching to start the Rob Morris game, he seemed to be completely tuned out. I'd like to know the story behind that.
I'm just happy we're done with Reynolds, and Jerry Smith too! :P

If we had a big man with those skills...

And that's how programs outside of the top 15-20 usually have to do it because of the lack of ready to play 4 and 5 star bigs like a Demarcus Cousins. Find a raw one, redshirt/develop him, and hope he blossoms as an upperclassmen. Like how NFL teams develop quarterbacks.
If Otule or Yous can put up 2/3rds of the production of a Samhan by their senior years, we'll be a very, very good basketball team.

UConn has Kemba Walker and Jerome Dyson in their backcourt. There aren't 10 more talented starting backcourts in the country. UConn's problems are all over the place, but they don't fit your theory.

My son and I went to the games in Providence on Saturday. Nova refused to double down on Samhan and he just ate up their interior defenders. The few times they did double down and force him to pass, he didn't do a very good job. Poor coaching by Nova, I thought.
What threw me about the games, and watching this tournament as a whole, is how undisciplined many of the Big East teams (us excluded) are on the offensive end. Reynolds had a bad shooting night, but he took bad shot after bad shot early in the shot clock. Nova just constantly looked for dribble penetration and when they couldn't get it immediately, settled for tough jump shots. That cost them the game as much as Samhan.
One of the things I liked most about MU this year (and it's not an original thought as announcers have praised us for it all season) is the way we moved the ball around on offense and made the "extra pass". Many of our Big East brethren (UConn, Villanova, West Virginia come immediately to mind) just have their best players try to make something happen. It looks awful when things aren't going right.

How about him calling out Jay Wright afterward...
"I'm a slow white guy, and I'm overweight. So maybe you don't respect me because I have good numbers. But after I kill you the first half, what are you waiting for. I don't know what he wanted. Did he want me to have 40?" That's St. Mary's center Omar Samhan on Villanova coach Jay Wright after the Gaels stunned the 2nd-seeded Wildcats, 75-68. Samhan had 32 points; he has 61 in two games and has shot 24-of-32 from the field. He has 'beast' tattooed on the inside of his lip.

My son's boss and his friends were at San Jose and called him to say they loved MU offense and felt we didn't deserve to lose(they blamed refs)

I agree. Nova's issues run far deeper than just running into a good west coast team at the wrong time. Nova has lost 5 or 6 games down the stretch. They got extremely lucky to beat 15 seed Robert Morris. They simply aren't the same team at this point that they were last year or even the first 2/3 of this year.

Thank you. Disagree w/ Georgetown as well. Though not as guard-reliant as UConn, I would not say they had bad guardplay. Chris Wright and Austin Freeman is not a bad backcourt.
