I've talked to some people that know Bartman from school and by all accounts he is a really good guy. The way he is treated is despicable, especially considering the dignity with which he's handled the situation. If the Cubs could have won game 7, no one would remember this kid. He didn't do anything wrong.

I knew there were many reasons why I hated Notre Dame.  Phil Donahue just adds to the list.

however now if we lose to ND... I am going to blame it on this post....

and I love Cub fans who still blame Bartman... maybe if Alex Gonzalez was more like JJ Hardy he wouldn't have botched an easy groundball that I could have scooped, and tossed the guy out to end the inning.  But its Cub fans... first it was the Billy Goat, now Bartman....

Can't blame the goat or Bartman when you end up in the cellar again this year

Digger isn't a ND alum--he played basketball at Rider College, wherever that is.

How about this guy:

George Wendt had a stellar career at ND. According to Wiki:

"He was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended Campion High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was kicked out of University of Notre Dame after a lack of studying resulted in a semester with a 0.00 GPA. He was more successful at the Jesuit Rockhurst College in Kansas City where after applying himself, he graduated with a B.A. in economics."

Are you still considered an alum if you never really went to class?  I mean I've partied at ND, and I don't consider myself an alum!

I remember him. He looked just like Nipsey Russell. If I recall, McGuire loved him when he was broadcasting ND games. He used to claim he played better when the band was playing!

Although George Wendt did attend ND, I believe he lasted only a semester.

Condie Rice attended Grad School at ND, not undergrad.

Can't blame the goat or Bartman when you end up in the cellar again this year

Get your facts right.

1. the only fans who blame him are Wrigley fans, not Cubs fans.

2. At least get the scenario right.  Following the Bartman incident, there was only one out.  Had Gonzo fielded that ball cleanly, he would have most likely only gotten the out at second base as it was a fairly slow chopper and would have required a quick turn at second for the double play.  Therefore, the inning most likely would not have ended.

3. "End up in the cellar again this year."  Where'd the Brewers finish this year?  Now, where did the Cubs finish this year?  Did the Brewers play any games in October?

OK, let's put aside baseball for now (especially since Mayor's post was 11 months ago) and focus:  we all hate Notre Dame.  We are Marquette--genuinely decent folks who hate the arrogance that (mostly) is ND.  We need a win at the BC--the Joyce center on 2/9 will be a very nasty venue.

QuoteGottlieb went to ND as well.....

From his wiki:

QuoteAfter signing a national letter of intent with Notre Dame, Gottlieb was the starting point guard for Notre Dame during the 1995-1996 college basketball season. He started all but four games for Notre Dame during that season. During Gottlieb's freshman year at Notre Dame, he stole credit cards from a roommate and fraudulently charged over $900 to those cards. Subsequently, he was kicked off the Notre Dame basketball team and eventually convicted of misdemeanor fraud. Gottlieb then earned an Associate of Arts in business at Golden West College.[1][2]

Gottlieb then transferred to Oklahoma State University and took over as point guard for an OSU team that was 17-15 two consecutive years and the team immediately returned to the NCAA tournament. Gottlieb was the 1998 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and Oklahoma State went to three consecutive NCAA tournaments including the 2000 Elite Eight. Gottlieb was a member of Oklahoma State's basketball team from 1997-2000, leading the nation in assists as a junior after averaging 8.8 assists per game - .2 assists better than his senior season, when he ranked second in the nation with 8.6 assists per game. He currently ranks 10th all-time in NCAA career assists with 947.

he and Wendt have something in common.......

He attended for a year, so I don't think we can say he's really tied to the school any more.  Kicked off the team for having been charged of a misdemeanor for stealing his roommate's credit card and charging on it.

He eventually went on to play at Oklahoma State at PG and is mostly tied to that school.

The thing that always makes me feel sorry for Bartman is that there was a fan right near him going afterthe ball just as hard as Bartman.  That guy is lucky he wasn't the one who interfered.
