Title: MU on SI cover!
Post by: ATWizJr on March 17, 2010, 10:33:10 AM
Mine just arrived and a cursory exam finds at least 3 MU references in the cover pic.

I take it as a sign of good things to come and NOT a, well, you know.

SI typically runs several (4) regional cover this time of year to increase sales.

Well, I'm no expert on this, but the cover has all 64 teams on it and in the center a large pic of Wesley Johnson stuffing the ball, so I'd bet that the 3 MU references will appear on all covers nationally.  Sure hope so, anyway.

and, they like us to get to the Sweet 16!!

I'm guessing the three are Buzz, Lazar, and the Golden Eagle?

I'm guessing there's some old reference to the 77 team, as they've done in years past with older photos hidden in the collage. Then maybe Lazar and a photo of McGuire broadcasting.

The last several years our stud player and the Golden Eagle were on the cover so I went out on a limb and added Buzz haha.

I'm glad they went with Buzz in the blue sportcoat!

Always great to see a ref on the cover.  None other than Jim Burr!

I like how they have Buzz with his outstretched arms right below the "Where's Your Team?" tagline.

Jim Burr also on the cover.  Hope it jinxes him too.

I like to think of it as Buzz taunting the NIT field.

Does a SI jinx cancel out the jinx Burr has put on us this season?

I remember when people were worried that Buzz couldn't keep up the media attention for Marquette that Tom Crean brought in.

With Buzz, media outlets across the country have been calling us the hardest working team on hardwood, and not just because it was the season motto like three years ago.  Now Buzz is on the cover of SI, representing Marquette.

I'd just like to thank Buzz for keeping Marquette relevant in the media.

I like SoCal's cover better..... more Golden Eagle!

Then it's in for all 64 teams and several women's teams.  It's a wash.

I was actually one of those concerned people, and I have to give a TON of credit to MU, the SID, and Buzz Williams for all of the media coverage they are getting.

Well done, guys. Well done.

Seriously....it's not even close to comparable.  We pay for a service that monitors media PR impressions each day.  I'll have my guys run it for Marquette for the last two years vs the previous 4.  It won't be close, I can guarantee you that.  Yes, we're getting some PR love the last 3 weeks but that pales in comparison to what we had prior, especially in outlets outside of the midwest.

.. well.. PR goes up as any team gets votes in the coach/AP polls.  This year, we weren't in the Top 25 = far less PR.

Mine's got Scottie Reynolds on it.  They take MU to get to the Sweet 16.  FF of KU, Cuse, WVU, and Duke with KU beating WVU in the final.

My SI cover here in Vegas had Matt Bouldin of the Zags on the cover.  They had six regional covers created.  I've attached them in a PDF file.

Chicos is probably right, but who cares.  TC gave us what we needed back then (even though his motives were primarily self promotion).  We're in the Big East, now its just win baby, and the PR will take care of itself.
