No offense, but posting the job is a procedural issue. Many schools do this when it comes to searches even if they never have intention of seriously looking at anyone who applies through this.

Bingo. Pretty sure that they are required to do so by law in order to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. That was the story when MU had the exact same sort of posting in the past.
I'm applying. I just want to be the proud owner of a letter that starts: "We appreciate your interest in the Men's Basketball Head Coaching Position..."
I applied online to be Marquette's Director of Basketball Operations a few years ago. Never heard back on that one.
Yea these jobs have to be posted, regardless of how funny it may be.

Takes me back to when I applied for Michigan's head football job a couple years ago. Additionally, for people trying to stay on unemployment, these postings are a godsend.
Cooby,
Its a shame Michigan didn't hire you. They might be in a better position now if they had.
Maybe they thought that I was going to Kiffin their asses and go back to my coaching roots after just one season. (For the record, those roots are in CYM basketball, so they really had nothing to worry about)
