I work until 5 on Thursday (in the West Loop) and I am wondering if there is a place downtown people will go to watch the game straight from work. I know the Schoolyard in Lakeview is a Marquette bar but by the time I get there it will just about be tip-off and packed.
I'm just thinking we could find a bar for the group of alum who work in the loop. Let me know if anyone knows anything about this or wants to spearhead the operation.

Sounds perfect... I am in the same boat. I think I am doing Schoolyard.
I work until 5 in the loop as well. As of right now I plan on leaving early to catch the game back in Rockford but if this takes off I may change my plans.
I'm going to hit the Foolyard, but here's a few suggestions for the West Loop. Best bet is to get a TV or two at West End on Madison. Sound might be an issue. Morgan's on Halsted in University Village has a number of TV's too. After that your competing for limited TVs as many in the Loop will suffer likewise.
On the other hand, it sounds like you are developing a cough. Maybe you are coming down with Swine Flu. Better to be safe. Gives your Friday off too.
Agree with MUFC9295. I watched the MU - Georgetown BE Tourney game at Morgans. Nice place to watch a game plenty of beers on hand, decent bar food, but the area gets EXTREMELY congested so parking will be tricky.
West End is a great place to watch games, I am usually there before Hawks games, they do have plenty of TV's so I don't think you'd have trouble finding whatever game you're looking for. Beer Bistro on Madison is another place but if you sit in the back area, all the TV's are facing one way so make sure you are sitting on the right side of the table. They have a tone of beers on tap as well (as the name suggests).
Personally, I already have scheduled the Swine Flu for those two days and the doctor says I should be at Piece for treatment.
All good recommendations. West End is part of the "Schoolyard" family of bars.
My favorite on the west side for food and beer is the Beer Bistro. Great food there and an excellent selection of beers. Try the sliders.

Yeah I'm not opposed to going to the Schoolyard when its crowded, I'm actually more worried about it being at capacity. Its happened before, and this is the perfect event/time slot for it to happen.

Very very true. I got left out on the WI game this year. That is why I am booking it there. I feel like it won't be too crazy with it being on a Thursday and all. Its tough to forecast.
You guys should thank me for not going to the Schoolyard. The team lost virtually every game I watched there, the last one being the Final Four game against Kansas.

Beer bistro is OK, but the TVs are limited and the staff isn't super cooperative. I'd go to Third Rail before I went to Beer Bistro. Probably can't miss going to West End if you had to pick, though.
There's also Stanley's and that other place on Racine.
Union Park on Racine has tvs a plenty. Not going to have sound there either though. Better chance to sit and watch too.
4ever, I have the same trouble with Four Shadows. Sorry for the Georgetown loss last Friday. Never again.
Alright as of right now me and my buddy (fellow MU alum) will be meeting at Morgan's (on Halsted near Roosevelt), probably 5:30-6ish. If anyone else working downtown wants to join us, we'll be wearing gold. If not, we'll drink enough beers for the rest of you.
Marquette student here. For those of you who don't know, we're currently on Spring Break. I didn't want to fly back to Sacramento for break (tough I wish I had now, Sacto is a two and a half hour drive from San Jose) so I'm staying at a hotel in the loop. I am under legal drinking age but I'm still planning on seeing the game at a Sports Bar.
I got nothing going on at all Thursday so I was planning on going up to the Schoolyard a few hours before tip to catch the other games. If enough people go to Morgan's I might just make it easy on myself and go there...
I suggest a gold sweater vest and fake moustache. Can that Guy Incognito help you?

Not to deter you from joining us, but if you have time to make it to the Schoolyard, I'd definitely recommend that. Its a crazy atmosphere for Marquette games, if you haven't been there. My biggest issue is that with the commute after work I'm afraid it will be at capacity. If you can get there early, I'd say that will be a much more fun place to watch a game. But you're welcome to join us.
i'm right around the corner from Morgans and will prob stop by there. I'll look for you guys
I beileve Morgan's on Halsted by UIC is hosting the Blackhawks Road Watch this Thursday. Puck drops 9:30 so it might get congested toward the end of the MU game, but should make for a good combo if you're there.
