Title: Jae Crowder - NJCAA Tournament
Post by: StillAWarrior on March 15, 2010, 02:50:38 PM
I didn't see this posted before.  Jae Crowder and Howard College (29-2) beat No. 1 Midland College (again) to win Region 5 and qualify for the NJCAA tournament this week.  The NJCAA has a website for its tournament (http://www.njcaabbtrny.org/home/homepage.htm) that has the bracket and will be streaming games.  It looks like Howard's first game is Wednesday afternoon.

Apparently he averaged 19/9 (http://www.jucoathletics.com/njcaa_stats.php?sport=mbb&region=5)

I understand his hair has aerodynamic properties.   ;D

Looking forward to seeing him play here.

Why did he only play 22 minutes?  Big lead?  If he's the stud we all hope he is I'd expect to see him getting a lot more minutes.

Was Crowder heavily recruited out of high school or is he a guy that has blossomed at the JUCO level?

I think I read somewhere he grew a bunch recently.

He was a chubby point guard who started to grow and shape up toward the end of his high school career. He's since grown a few more inches. Classic late bloomer, I suppose.

I love to hear about guys who came up as point guards and then grew out of the position.  You can never have enough guys who have good ballhandling and passing skills on the team.

A point power forward.  A rebounding animal with an inside outside game.  Hopefully there will be comparisons, in the coming years, to Terry Cummings.   :)

Watched the past couple games that have been streamed online from the regional tournament. While he isnt the bruising inside presence that we are looking for, he is definately skilled and will help MU next year.

He is very long, and has (and I am completely comfortable saying this...) a very nice physique... muscular, broad shoulders.  Hes a good athlete.

Very nice looking jumper, and is active around the rim. He was getting into foul trouble, so his aggressiveness was limited. I am really looking forward to watching the national tournament later this week.

I think he can fit in the 3-4 role that we lose when Lazar graduates. Again...not saying he will be Lazar, but can fill a similar type of role.

If I had to place another comparison on him, and this could be due to the hair, it would be DeMarre Carroll from Missouri.

I would love for Crowder to be a DeMarre Carroll clone!! I'm gonna hold you to that GOMU1104...

I use that comparison the way some compared Joe Fulce to Shawn Marion initially.

Not saying he will be as good as Carroll but, When I watch Crowder, that is who he kind of reminds me of.

He was recrited to fill the Lazar role. Thinking Otule will give us at least 20-25 minutes in the 5 hole.

I don't quite see Otule getting 20-25 minutes a game. Unless he improves dramatically, that could be a stretch for Otule.

I think it was a joke more than a literal analysis...

I checked out Jae's highlights on YouTube and tempered myself knowing they don't show the bad plays, but man...the kid's got a STROKE from 3! Nuttin' but net!

Were those posted recently?  I tried finding highlights about a month ago and all I could find was Jae dancing in a classroom.
