during the selection show....Annex...anyone know?
I am almost 100% positive that they will have the Annex to themselves.
Fairly certain it will be at the Annex. I know that all the hotel people that are hosting teams were invited to watch there.
Closed to the public?....bummer...and totally not nice.

School's on spring break, anyway.
if the annex is closed for basketball personnel does anyone know a place where MU fans are getting together for the selection show?
angelos
The Annex is definitely (and regrettably) closed to the general public for the selection show.
This is BS. Is this a legacy of the Tom Crean era? He was the sort of guy who would demand this sort of absurd entitlement. I cannot believe that Buzz Williams, a down to and salt of the earth man of the people would dream up such elitist rubbish. This has got to be a Crean thing. Anyone have the email to Buzz? I fully intend to voice my displeasure about this policy. This MU squad is the "People's Team!" They need to be near their adoring masses. Get me Buzz' email and I will give him the people's perspective!

The team deserves to be together and alone for this in my opinion. I wouldn't want a bunch of loud, annoying people around me during the selection if I were a player....

Unless the team's at a big pep rally thing with a CBS camera there.
Other than that, who cares. When you put the whole team with staff, plus any family that wants to be there, plus local media who will want to talk to Buzz right away into the Annex, it gets pretty crowded pretty fast.
This nonsense of the team getting the Annex all to themselves was started by Tom Crean. I wonder where he has gathered the II, II squad for today's telecast?
They will be at the Annex and it is open to the public.

It's not open to the public. I called them this afternoon.

Dude, don't you have his cell phone number? Must have been sleeping when he gave it out.
So this was a Crean decision 2 years after he's gone? I fully expect him to be blamed for the Chile earthquake before 2010 is over.
I was surprised that CBS had a camera at MU -- anyone remember another year when we had TV coverage of our seed?
.. and equally surprised that since we did have TV, that we didn't do something more public like all the other schools do .. big room, lots of people, players out front.

Man, they had one doofus on a Sunday night from Channel 58 shooting the scene. On the other hand, Crean would have pulled up in a gold stretch Hummer, dressed in kung foo gear, with Wade leading the way.

All the schools that had lots of fans and the band were schools that were ranked 14 to 16 and going to get smoked in the first round. The selection was the highlight of the year.
Schools like 'cuse, UK and MU all had small celebrations. These schools realize their work is only just beginning and expect to win some (all?) the games.
We acted like we belonged, not like a Murray State with 2,000 screaming fans. We did it right.
Please .. enough with the "acting like we belong" crap. All the #1 seeds showed no emotion, "acting like they belonged" .. and that's fine if they want to act like that.
MU was a #6 seed, the kids were excited, and if I was there, I'd have been surprised and excited and screamed for joy too.
Not saying we need to erect a banner in the BC, but getting that seed WAS a highlight of this year, and should be celebrated.
I agree. Where this team was supposed to be at the beginning of the year, a 6 seed is certainly a cause for celebration. Yes MU could have a "we've been here" attitude about getting to the tournament, but the noise we have made there was been a whimper. We are not perennial sweet sixteeners, so a good seed is more meaningful to us.

If Tom Crean were still here we would already have a banner up in the BC. Of course, if Tom Crean were still here we might not be in the tournament.

There is solid evidence that the Chile earthquake was triggered when Tom Crean dropped his ego on the bathroom floor while readying for bed. Tremors were felt as far away as Tokyo and Krakatoa.
Too bad it wasn't a public event held at Buzz's house.
Teams that usually bring the fans along are those who rarely get there.
With MU students away on Spring Break, it'd be hard to get them in one place like the Varsity...or the AL...though THAT would be cool.

pretty funny.
Marquette learns tourney fate at 11-year-old's birthday party
The solemn mood seen here from the Marquette Warriors had nothing to do with a slow moving Selection Sunday and everything to do with the pony not showing up. Thankfully, the vibe reportedly took a turn for the better when coach Buzz Williams moonwalked into the room with Fudgie the Whale in one hand, and Cookie Puss in the other
Where was the team at? And did anyone else get the feeling the team wasn't paying attention b/c they didn't expect to be a 6 seed?
They were at the Annex.
If definately took them awhile to respond once Marquette was called. All of the schools had a little lag time on the feed but this seemed longer than the rest.

They were at the Annex. Yeah, the players seemed to be directing their attention elsewhere when their name came up as they probbaly assumed they would be the 8-9 seed in the South bracket which hadn't been announced yet.
was it necessary to put the 'reserved' signs up?
they dont let anyone who is not affiliated with the team in the Annex during the selection show. Who else would have been able to take the tables?
I'm guessing they wanted the players right in front of the CBS cameras and not friends and family front and center.
I'm glad somebody else caught this -- where exactly was the Selection Show watching party?

I know that's what happened to me.
I thought it was appropriate based on MU's history. I know that we had finals reviews in bars, so why not, with the whole world watching, with every other school looking poised and alert, shouldn't MU be sitting in a bar barely paying attention to the brackets? Classic. My wife (who by the way STILL has her Indiana schoolgirl crush on the perfect hair of Steve Alford and is therefore conflicted about MU's second round game) commented that it seemed odd compared to the others. I told her it wasn't odd, it was Marquette being Marquette.

The ones that are over 21 should have been sitting at the bar on stools with the homeless dude on the corner stool..that would have been pimp.

Same here... I was busy worrying out that we were about to get left out since 3 regions worth of 7-10 seeds had already been mentioned. Never thought to pay attention to the 6 seeds. :)
i don't know if this was posted already, but pretty funny take on our selection sunday viewing party...
