Title: Can't win 'em all
Post by: PuertoRicanNightmare on March 13, 2010, 07:24:37 AM
Does anybody else think we played fairly well last night except for the last 12 minutes or so? I mean, I know that's a significant portion of the game, but I can't help but wonder if we just ran out of gas. It seems like there was a point in the game when our guys stopped running our offense and decided they all needed to take it upon themselves to get baskets.

Kudos to Acker, by the way. He played a whale of a game...looked like a high major point guard to me.

Now let's go get 'em on Thursday or Friday!

I thought we played decently but ran into a buzz saw.  I was surprisingly not really upset or even frustrated with this loss.  While it would have been nice not to get run out of the gym, it's all good.  Nice to see Mo play so well, clearly we need DJO.  I don't think this shakes the team at all, and they will be ready come tourney time.

You could make a pretty solid argument that Buzz is definitely going to have their full attention for the next 5 days.

I agree.  Fatigue looked to be a factor.  Didn't get some calls when taking it to the hoop (not because of the refs), because G'Town played very solid defense when contesting our drives while not fouling.

G'Town is playing VERY VERY well.  And, well, Monroe stepping out and knocking down that 3 pretty much just sums up the night.  Every run we made, they answered.  Great teams do that, and I think G'Town is a great team.  I don't think anyone was beating them last night.

Time to rest and go back to work and make a run in the tourney that matters even more.  Although it would've been nice getting another crack at WVU.

Yeah, I think MU ran out of gas. Maybe a time out or two earlier in the 2nd half may have stemmed the tide a little, but Georgetown was on top of their game last night. One more day to rest up for the NCAA's now.

Short tournaments are all about match-ups and this round (whether GU or SU) was not favorable to MU to begin with.  GU has as short a bench as MU, and had played for the third straight day.  But, we rely on our quickness which-except for Mo-wasn't there.  GU, on the other hand, had an active Monroe.  The rebounding margin was telling.

In the 1st GU game, we concentrated on denying Monroe the ball (he is an excellent passer for the back picks) and his dribble-drive.  Monroe is key to stopping the Princeton O.  GU came out with a 3-2 zone--with Monroe up in the middle to constrict our paint touches--and to push out the perimeter on the three line.  This limited and disrupted our offense.  Since we don't have a big, we couldn't post it down low to exploit this.  Expect our NCAA opponents to study that video.

The outcome was expected although the margin was wider than I thought.  Great effort by the team and coaches.  The third and fourth gear just wasn't there.

Speaking of that...  Can they win it all?  I think so.  (unless we beat em first of course)

I think they can....the other thing that I noticed was that from the start of the game, GU had the fire and intensity in their eyes that Marquette has had up until yesterday's game....I just didn't see it, which leads me to believe that they were tired....

MU hit the wall last night in their third game in as many days. Same as what happened in Orlando against FSU. We have a short bench, are usually outmanned physically and play with tremendous intensity - 3 games in 53 hours may be too much to ask.

Jump shooting teams rely on their legs and playing 3 games in 3 days against tougher opponents each game, our legs were just not there.  Too many missed shots that normally go in.  For once, this team did look really tired as the lead was expanding.
