Call me crazy, but I have a gut feeling if Illinois loses tomorrow they WILL NOT make the field. I grew up in Illinois and all my friends seem to think they are a lock, as do many analysts (Lunardi had them in before today)
I think they are the one team this season the media latches on to as one of the teams that should be in, that isnt really deserving. I was looking at their resume, and first off it boggles me how a 19-13 team is considered in by most. Good wins against Clemson, Vanderbilt, MSU, and two against Bucky (5 top 50, but MSU and Bucky were missing key players and Clemson and Vanderbilt were before those teams really got going). Bad losses against Utah, Bradley, Georgia, Northwestern- almost as many bad losses as good wins.
Computers: RPI still at 71 (warren nolan)- Im still looking for the stat about the lowest RPI team to make the field, but I believe there werent any in the 60s? Need help with that
This site deserves a bump, because I love it- Props to Chicos on this one

This was as of yesterday, but they had Illinois at a 3.8 chance of getting in. Something tells me its gonna take more than one good win in the conf tourney for them to get in...
13 losses...I dont see what Lunardi or most of america are seeing
PS- I really want Illinois to get in, but i just think them being snubbed might be a hot topic of conversation 2 days from now if they dont win tomorrow
I'm an Illinois fan and I'm not that worried.
I notice around the message boards today a lot of fans from midwest teams knocking Illinois for losing 13 and probably 14. Why is that? Do you really want to see Saint Louis or some other crappy bubble team that isnt much better than Murray State over Illinois?

Like I said, I also wish for them to do well. The only other team I root for in college basketball, although having plenty close U of I grad friends sorta pushes you away because they are always talking crap. You might take offense to this, but many of them are envious of Marquette I believe
Anyway, I am worried... Look at that site- Murry St is in as an automatic. SLU is definitely out. However, of the teams they have as the last 5 in I would question ASU, Mississippi, and Memphis, and Va Tech (SDSU is a lock now). Then, you have Georgia Tech as a lock if u ask me (esp after win vs maryland).
That leaves 3 spots for UAB, URI, Miss St, Illinois, Minnesota, Dayton, Seton Hall, and this is only if all 4 of those teams that they have in are left out.... Who would you leave out to put Illinois in?
I dont take offense to that at all, I relate to it quite well because most of my friends are Alabama fans and I secretly root for them to lose so they can feel my football pain. I believe they call that schadenfreude
Who would I leave out? Almost every one of those teams.
They didnt challenge themselves at all OOC and their signature wins are nothing compared to Illinois'. Ok...Dayton and Minnesota scheduled 2 good teams, but Dayton lost and went 8-8 in conference.
I'd put Minnesota, Illinois, and Seton Hall in... But if Miss State does well in the SEC tourney they take Seton Halls' spot.
I actually feel better after looking up all those teams' schedule. Illinois would probably have 3 more wins and 3 less losses if they would've played those weak schedules
Illinois sucks. Gophers are better. Get them into the tourney.

Relax. I posted this to discuss the last few teams in or out and how Illinois might be one of those teams screaming snubbed tomorrow
Also, I wanted to bump that site. As another poster said, these guys usually only miss 1-2 teams
Cant wait for tomorrow
Looks like Utah State is in also, win or lose tonight in their championship game. Legendary coach Stew Morrill does it again. ;D
26 wins a year on average for 11 straight years now. Some speculation that if Few takes Oregon, Morrill goes to Gonzaga. Morrill is a graduate of Gonzaga.

Yup....AD of Houston is Mack Rhoades....former Marquette Athletic Department man. Just sent him a text. Great great win for them.
Aside from the fact that Illinois is my second school, as my law degree is from there, I think it's fine to discuss bubble teams on this forum, and potential opponents. BTW, Illinois is in Urbana-Champaign, not champagne.
I hope they make it. I've never liked Minnesota since the early 70's game when their player slugged the Ohio State player.

Yes, this is an MU board. But it also is a college basketball board. As long as someone is not coming over to rag on us, we should welcome them.

This is way off topic, but for the folks who never heard of the criminal behavior by the Minnesota bball team in 1972, here's the SI story. One of the worst incidents in college sports ever. And future Hall of Fame baseball player Dave Winfield was one of Minnesota's goons.
