Title: Seeding Notes
Post by: Roscoe on March 11, 2010, 04:36:22 PM
From Andy Glockner's column on SI.com

Marquette keeps getting squeezed by the higher Big East seeds. With two Big East 1s and a 4, there was only one regional left for a Big East 8/9 seed, and that's Kentucky's. UK is in the Milwaukee subregional, though, where Marquette is the host and can't play. Therefore, Notre Dame moves into that 9, even though the Irish are behind Marquette in natural seeding.

Let's see how rest of Big East Tourney plays out first.  If we beat Georgetown I think we will gain another seed or two..putting us at 7...that would elminate any issues and allow us to join WV who will more than likely get a 2 seed.

I would like to think that we are a 7 seed already as well. If we were a 9 before the Nova win.  I dothink we could leap frog 4 teams (I am assuming we are the top 9 seed now) with one conference tournament win.  It was against a top 10 team.  So let's take a leap and say we are a 7.  Which bracket are we in and who do we play?

7 - Butler 10 - ND (they move back to our vacated spot)
7 - Wake Forest 10 - Utah State
7 - Gonzaga 10 - Oklahoma State
7 - Clemson 10 - Louisville

I think we bump Wake Forest and play Utah State and play in Providence.  Just based on this bracket obviously.  There are still a lot of conference tournament games to be played.

NCAA doesnt like repeating matchups so soon together. and OK state is not a 10. Bracket project has them at the highest 8.i think clemson drops out of the 7's and we  take it.

The Wake Forest loss was huge as I think we jump over them now.  The win over Nova is huge.  A real signature win to add to Georgetown and Xavier.  Beating Nova and playing Georgetown also has to help out our RPI.

Here is hoping that Clemson takes a bad loss as well.

I have a bad feeling we will be an 8 or 9 seed, with the 1 seed being Kansas.

GTown and ND winning too probably hurts us in terms of moving up in the seedings, doesn't it? I had hoped by winning we could clearly push ahead of them in terms of seeds.

Taking a step back, who cares? Great win today; we can play with elite teams so let's just see where it all leads. We're playing with house money at this point, so might as well just sit back and enjoy it.

The seeding is not that important. It is the matchup and how well we defend . Our team is well tested and mentally tough to challenge anyone

What seed would we be if we won the BET?  Four or five...?

i think we could jump that high if we win the BET and beat WVU. If the championship were against ND, i dont think it would get the same credit.
