Bobby Gonzalez article. I do not like him.
"None of the three players who have committed to play for Seton Hall next season have qualified academically, continuing a pattern of questionable recruiting."
Sounds like the future might not be too bright for Seton Hall.
That article makes the DePaul leadership situation look like model of stability.
Easily one of the most despisable and despicable characters in the Big East, and dare I say, in Div I basketball.
Has anyoneHave any of his players ever had a good thing to say about him?
I guess it's just the media trying to bring him down. Poor guy.
Edit: Fixed.
Saw this quote on espn.
To illustrate just how difficult Bobby Gonzalez was to manage when he coached at Manhattan College from 1999 to 2006, Athletic Director Bob Byrnes told a story about the bus company Manhattan used to travel to games. "The guy who runs the bus company called me and said something to the effect of: 'I have 131 drivers that drive for us. But we're down to one guy that will drive for Bobby Gonzalez,' " Byrnes said.
My favorite part was how no one at SHU bothered to call the Manhattan AD before hiring Gonzo.
Why the heck did they extend his contract til 2015???

I'm impressed that they extended him til then but didn't guarantee him any more money.
Seeing the title, I was shocked 1) it was still an open thread and 2) it wasn't in the Superbar!
Then I clicked on the link to read it was about Bobby G. ::)

She was a reporter? She says that there are a holes that you can drive "100 20,000 seat arenas through," but then doesn't proceed to address any of the points on their merits...just questions the conspiracy behind it all.

I got no dog in this fight, but it seems to me that she spends a great deal of "ink" addressing the alleged inaccuracies in the Times piece.
But, no doubt there is a conspiracy. She started her response by repeatedly asking "why" the Times would publish the piece on Gonzo. The answer is simple, they think he's a jerk, so they want to smear him. That's not so hard to understand.

I'm not a big fan of Gonzalez, but it does make you question the timing of the article as well as the point of it. I understand its his sister, but it does sound like they were just bashing him as a human being and not talking about his coaching or Seton Hall basketball.
There are plenty of other coaches that are far worse, but winning cures all.
I read the article yesterday, and while I agree that Bobby Gonzalez is one of the true bad guys in college basketball, this article was trash. All of the critiques that Linda points out are truly valid. The story was very poorly written, with plenty of cut and paste quotes. Not to mention that all of the negative quotes were from people who had an axe to grind with Gonzalez.
Article was definitely written with an agenda. That said, it still speaks volumes about Gonzalez that there are so many people out there, who have worked with him and know him, who can't say a nice thing about him. Says something, too, that SHU renewed his contract nevertheless...especially if his recruiting is that shady.
Wonder what would come out of an article like that on Buzz. I know he left UNO under unusual circumstances but never really heard much about it. Now THAT said...I would prefer to never see an article like that on Buzz, and doubt that there would be that many people grinding an ax.

My bad on the new thread. I searched for 'Gonzalez' up top b/c I thought I had read something to this effect earlier, but this thread didn't pop up. Anybody know how to delete/move your own thread?
