6'8" 210 lb PF from Notre Dame prep. Decommitted from UConn yesterday.
He views himself as a 3 at 6'8" and areas for improvement is his 3-pt shooting. If we went after him he wouldn't be playing the 3, thats for sure.

Beat me to the punch. Def. not a 3 in our program.
why not...do you have any idea what a 6-8 3 man would do for MU??

There's just no way that the biggest man on our team (at least one of the biggest) would be sent out to play the 3... J May style thinking here

+1
Exactly what crossed my mind. Otule/Mbao at the 5, Butler at the 4, then a 6'8 wing who can't shoot the 3?
JMay all over again. If he wants to solely play the 3, he better look elsewhere.
Decommitted from UConn. My guess is that he just isn't a very good player. Looking at DePaul, TCU, South Florida, Miami [cringe].
Why are we so worried about what # he wants to classify himself as? If Buzz thinks he would be a good fit, I don't see what the big deal is.
From reading some Big East boards, and Uconn's board it seems as if he may not be a Big East caliber player. Crazy athletic but the hype is around his potential and it seems he is considered somewhat of a project. Not a physical player at 6'8, he sounds like a Lawrence Blackledge type frame and player.
If he wants to play the 3 at 6'8, i highly doubt he will come to MU considering Lazar and Jimmy at a generous 6'6 basically play the 4 and 5.

Do you?
Does Jimmy Butler count as a 6'8" 3 man?
I think I want this guy just for his name.
OK, first of all. Buzz has stated on several occassions other than the pg and c all the other positions really are interchangeable. So if he plays the 2/3/4 on D it really doesnt matter in Buzz's offensive system. Also this season MU played without anyone really playing a prototypical 5 on offense and one would assume Otule and Mbao would be the 5s in the next few seasons. If he is good enough, sign him up. At this point I would defer to Buzz and we dont really know if Buzz is still interested...
I'd rather target Darnell Harris who is 6'8" and CAN shoot the three.

Yeah, not sure why we're suddenly concerned about this with this guy when next year we have Jamail Jones saying he's a "shooting guard" and Crowder saying he will play the 2.

A 6'8" who can't shoot doesn't do anything for MU. Just because you label him at a certain position, doesn't make him a good fit there. Hell, why don't we just call him a point guard and he can be the next coming of Magic Johnson!!!!
Looks like he turned out pretty well. About this same time people were ripping the signing of Crowder too.

Not sure if anyone knows, but a 6'8 3....sounds a lot like Juan Anderson.
Just to be sure everyone realized...Dimes quoted a thread nearly a year old - so take all posts before that in context....

Saw that, reason I ignored it at first ;D
Melvin has proved to be a great player. Good signing by Purnell, and if they keep getting guys like him, DePaul will be very good in 2-3 years. I really like him as a player...we could have used a guy like Melvin. Good scorer and rebounder, and definitely a hard worker.
Its hard to know if he even had an offer from MU. He was one of those players that was known to greatly exaggerate what kind of interest there was in him after he decommitted/was let go by Uconn.
