Only Lunardi, apparently!

Worries (for lack of a better word) have now shifted to eventual seedings and matchups in the dance.  A much better place to be then worrying about dancing.....

Not at all.  We are a lock with a potential of getting to a #6 seed with 2 more wins.

If we have a really bad loss... like to DePaul... in the BEast tourney I'd think that'd put us back on the bubble.  Right now it's a long shot to be put into the NIT, so I'm not terribly worried about it.

I think you're all lying. Yes, I'm still nervous and, if we managed to lose tomorrow, I think there's a chance of us getting snubbed.

No way; I don't see them taking multiple teams behind us in the standings. That would completely disregard a team (for the most part) taking care of business over the long haul. Frankly, I think it may be tougher to beat all the other mid-level conference teams like MU did rather than to lose to several with one or two upsets thrown in over the top teams. Maybe that is biased thinking, but I think it makes sense.

Stop worrying! We are a lock. If we lose our next two games, we're a lock. If we lose our next two games by 20, we're a lock. Everyone relax. Focus your attention toward seeding. Let's move on. This is getting ridiculous.

Side note: DePaul lost was bad, but let's not forget that the #1 team in the nation--according to both national polls--was down by 18 in the second half to them, and had to stage a huge comeback to win by two. (They also beat Northern Iowa.)

Lunardi still has UConn in at 17-13 (7-10).

We are for sure in.

+1

MU rarely gets a beneficial seed line and/or game location for opening weekend of the NCAA.  Until we start seeing more consistent success in the tourney, I still don't see MU getting a ton of respect on the national level.  That being said, while not exactly nervous, I won't be calm until our name is on the bracket on Selection Sunday.

The worst we can do is 5th in the conference, there is no way we get snubbed. The worry now is being an 8 or 9 seed.  A bigger worry would be an injury or being emotionally and physically spent if we win some games in the BET. Still 6 or it is nerve racking until MU shows up on the board. With a couple wins maybe we get a 6 or 7 seed.

I find that astonishing. If people are going to hold our loss to DePaul against us when seeding, how in the world can letting a team that finished under .500 in the conference be defended?

I'm all for Big East teams, but UCONN does not deserve a bid. Sorry.

No worries whatsoever.  We are in.  The only worry I have is getting an 8/9 seed.  I want to win 2 more games to get a 6 seed.

WE are IN..Period.  At this point I would guess that if we beat ND, we are a 6 seed..  Lose to them, AND lose our first Big East tourney game..we are a 7.   Beat ND and win first Big East tourney game..copuld see us moving up to a 5 seed.  I've shared this stat on several threads but:

MU is 0-5 against the Top 10 RPI teams with combined losses by a total of 17 points
MU is 2-1 against RPI teams 11-20
MU is 9-2 against RPI teams 11-100

Furthermore MU has won, what..10 of its last 11 games?  Decent road record in Big East.  Our RPI is merely pulled down due to playing some really, really weak teams before conference..and of course DePaul and NCState, which will be looked at as anamolies.

Definitely not worried about an invite. 20 wins, 11 in the BEast, 5th place in the BEast has to get a bid.

Win vs. ND, win first game in MSG gets us up to a 6 or 7 which is where we'd love to be.

Lose one or both of those and we may fall a bit to the dreaded 8/9 or 10/11, but I still don't think we'll be left out.

A six is a real longshot with our RPI and SOS. We would have to make a good run in BE tourney to get that high.

I love that statistic. When you look at our record against RPI teams 1-100, it's easy to overlook that majority of our losses came against the top ten in RPI.

Conventional wisdom would suggest this, but for some reason I feel this is the year MU actually gets seeded higher than expected (compared to previous years where we've been 1 or 2 seed lines below what we expect).  I genuinely believe a beat ND and win Game 1 of our Big East tourney..and we are a LOCK for a 6, and maybe even a 5.  Beat ND and lose Big East first round game - still think we get a 6, 7 at worst.

Lose to ND and in the first round of the tourney and we can kiss good-bye any seed lower than an #8.
Title: Re: Anyone still nervous?

I believe we are a lock.

Unless...what would happen if we lost to ND, lost in the 1st round of the BET to a poor team, and (gasp!) suffered season-ending injuries to both Lazar and Jimmy.  Would that be a perfect enough storm to keep us out?

I am worried exactly one thing: beating a hot ND team in our house on Senior Day.  'Zar, Mo, and Cooby deserve to go out like that.

What is this tournament you all speak of?

I'm still anxious.  Maybe not worried, but seeing some favorites win conference tourneys would do a lot to settle me down.

The selection committee should make sure we're in because it will help the TV ratings - we've proved we can play within a point or two of anybody (good or bad).

You are dreaming if you think MU loses its next two games and gets a 7 seed...

I agree we are a lock, but at 20-11, 11-7 with our computer numbers not being so great, and with really only a few good wins and no great wins (many close losses to top 3 seeded teams and best wins over 5 seeded GTown and 6 seeded Xavier according to Lunardi) there is no way MU gets a 7 seed. Likely an 8-10 seed, and I would guess closer to the 10

I am not saying MU cant get a 7 seed. I think a 7 or a 6 would be an ideal seed, but I think it is going to take a win tomorrow and in the first game of the BE tourney to put MU in the 7-8 seed range. I think it would take 2 wins in the BET to lock a 7 or better

I don't necessarily disagree with your analysis as I think it is reflective of conventional wisdom, etc.  However, if looking at all computer rankings..not just RPI..but the tourney committee can and does have listed Ken Pomroy and Saragin as supplemental information sources - we are ranked 19 and 21 respectively by Pom and Saragin.  I'll be surprised if MU is given a 10 seed, regardless of what happens..and also think we will get better than an 8 or 9 regardless of outcomes.  Say definitely a 7 with a win over ND..without any question.

Boy I sure do hope so. There are also other factors that come into play this year more so than others for MU, such as we cant play in Milwaukee and we cant play a BE team in the first 2 rounds. That means we can only get an 8 or 9 in two brackets (no East bracket because game is in MKE and no Syracuse bracket. If Syracuse gets the 1 in the East bracket then it kills two birds with one stone there). We can also only get a 7 in two brackets (no Midwest bracket because MKE and no Villnova bracket). We can only get a 6 in two brackets (no Pitt or WVU). Finally, we cant draw any of the teams below us (maybe L'Ville, ND, UConn) in an 8v9, 7v10, or 6v11

Its very complicated. Lets just win tomorrow and I'll be more confident of getting higher than an 8 seed

Question: Can Syracuse not get placed in the East Regional cause the 3rd and 4th round games are in Syracuse? Really blows for them if they are the overall #1 seed and get placed in the South Regional and have to travel all the way to Houston- seems unfair, especially considering Duke and UNC in the past and Nova last year

I think that is correct.  It was dicussed here on MUScoop recently.  There was talk of Syracuse having to travel to houston.
