Title: Typical MU/UL game... NO BIG DEAL!! Relax
Post by: Warriors Forever on February 17, 2007, 10:22:00 PM
They are 2-1 now for last second shots. Wardle for MU, Reese Gaines and now Smith for UL. Frankly, I think these games are what college basketball is all about. MU has 21 wins. We have guaranteed entries into the big dance and will fair well in the BE tourney which is all I want. Let the trolls paint doom and gloom. *yawn*

You must love inheritances because even though this game made my heart skip a beat I'm not resting laurels on 21 wins. Complacency sucks. Losing, even more.

Its 3-2 UL now.  You're forgetting the Francisco Garcia shot a few years back.

Are you serious?!?!?!  No big deal?  It's only our season in free fall.  To quote Ricky Bobby, when did you have the experimental operation to have your balls removed??

Actually its 3-3.  Mason with the bucket and the foul.

If we lose to Villanova on Monday night we are back on the bubble.  This loss is a big deal.  Our seed dropping greatly reduces the likelihood of an extended tournament run.  Next projections we'll be a 6 or 7.  Suddenly our first two games are Michigan State/Kansas instead of the Central Connecticut/Alabama type arrangement we were looking at 8 days ago.

Hey I had to deal with the Bob Dukiet years while I was in school... so cut me some slack LOL. "There is a difference between discouragement and disappointment..."

Don't see a "lock" for the Big Dance.  When ND beats Cincy tomorrow we're in a 4-way tie for 4th with 3 tough games remaining.  Not sure the BE gets 7, especially if #7 is a team that's lost 4 of its last 5.

This loss was extremely disappointing.  I guess the 8 game winning streak made us think we were invincible.  Considering that we suck at free throw shooting, 3 point shooting, turn the ball over more than we should and a lack of a legit low post presence, it kind of is surprising that we are even in contention for a first round bye.  Damn this loss sucked.

We are NOT a lock for the NCAAs.  We've got 3+1 games left, and could very easily lose all of them.  8 wins in the BE isn't going to do it, and 9 might not either .. the committee looks at how the team is doing down the stretch .. right now 0-3 .. if it ended up 0-7, 1-6 .. bubble city.

MU probably jinxed itself when it sent out the post season ticket request forms today, and unlike other years, didn't include a NIT form.

I don't know what planet you're on, but 21 wins is absolutely meaningless right now.  Sure we will be in the BE tournament, but we'll get killed playing like this, probably by DePaul, Seton Hall or Rutgers.  And you have to be smoking something if you honestly, deep down, think we can beat 'Nova on Monday, then go on the road and beat ND, then beat Pitt?!?  The way we've played the last few games--seriously?  Are you watching the same games?  I'd love to be all "happy go lucky", and "golly gee willickers", but I don't see us beating winning those three games.  By no means are we a "lock" for the tournament.

Disagree Warrors. This season is getting away from the team. Weak shooting is tough to overcome. Sure we will make the dance, but does one and done sound familiar?

On a side note related to the topic, given the history of MU/UL games, I really think that if the visiting team wins on a last second shot, the visiting coach should offer the "Mike Deane Salute" as a gesture of respect to the rivalry - you know, to keep it heated.

Oh how I despise how we lost.

May not be a big deal yet...but this one hurts in a big way. Win Monday and we go from there. Lose Monday, and we may as well start looking at '07-'08.

My hat is off to Pitino in this one because he did an unbelievable job. I am not a big so and so got outcoached guy and I'm not even sure that's the case in this one, but Pitino certainly wins the coach of the game award. The layup they scored under 30 seconds was the difference in the game - his players were obviously well aware that our goal was to stop the 3-pt shot and Sosa recognized it and drove right though a completely empty lane for an uncontested layup. We had no answer.

Beyond that, on the Smith 3 to end it, we didn't pressure in the back court, and we pretty much left Smith alone. How does that happen? Where exactly was the defense? We had no pressure on them bringing the ball up and no pressure on the shooter - where the hell was everyone?

The scary thing from this game is that Williams and Padget combined for 6 points. Of course MU had something to do with that, but if they get anywhere near their average, we lose by 15-20 points.

The nex two weeks is where Tom Crean either earns his money or doesn't. I think 3-0 and and 0-3 are pretty much even money at the moment. We were exposed in a big way underneath tonight and DJ is clearly completely lost at the moment. Both of those things need to be addressed immediatley. Come Monday night, either this season continues, or next season begins.

I hate that logic. If those two were in, scoring points, it would have taken away from other points scored -- maybe they would have traded a few easy baskets down low for some of those dagger threes and we win the game. Truth is, we don't know how the game would have changed. You can't just take their average ppg and add it to the box score. If they are in the game, every facet changes, not just the score.

it's a big deal...
needed to snap 2 game losing streak---
one trounced by a good team.
the other beaten by a lower level conf. foe.

you have to be cresting this time of the year... mid-late feb, not falling apart.
you HAVE to win games like this... home... conf. foe.

not a good loss at this point in the season.

it hurts and will very likely hurt conf. seed for be tourny and unless we run the table kiss that 3 or 4 or even 5 seed goodbye in the big dance.

once again, free throws down the stretch and inability to stop 3 point shooting.. what, UL had 3 3pter in the last couple minutes to get back in and win?

inexcusable for a very good team.
understandable for a pretty good and/or very young team.
even then, these young guys at this point are nearly in their 3rd season of ncaa hoops.

arrgh.
