Title: No Respect on ESPN
Post by: Clam Crowder on March 03, 2010, 09:21:57 AM
12:00a.m version paid more attention to Buzz's suit and the jumping man than to the game. No highlight of DJO's putback. I walked back to my dorm quickly and was disappointed to see the weak highlights and lack of coverage for Marquette

I guess.  At the end of the show, Jay Williams said it was the biggest and best win of the night by any team.  non-issue.

Well we have to put this in perspective as well... to us this was a HUGE game because it solidified out tourney hopes and allowed us to finally beat L'ville, which we haven't done in a while.  However, on a national scale, two unranked teams playing one another isn't exactly earth shattering news to the rest of the country.  Disappointing though that the highlights weren't even showing the best play (possibly of the season) by DJO... that dunk was an insane exclamation point on the dominating performance!

You were watching Sportscenter, ESPN as in ESPNNews did show the putback dunk. The show i always watch is anythime from 11-12 depending on the evenings scedule, College Basketball Final. We get coverage on their. Louisville got more last night because they specifically said, "lets talk UL now because they are the loser of this win and in game" it was along those lines. They said MU was in, not much else was needed.

Often ESPN will not even show highlights of a game involving two unranked teams.  That's a reason I love it when Marquette is ranked -- guaranteed ESPN highlights, scores/stats scrolling across the bottom of the screen and blurbs in the paper here.

Edited to add that, consistent with what HaywardsHeroes said, I was talking about SportsCenter.

Thought there was a fair amount of MU love on the morning addition, as well as ESPNU.

Doug just said we were in for sure, and said why not Buzz Williams for national Coach of the year? He did lose 3 1000 point scorers

I was actually surprised they gave it as much time as they did on SportsCenter considering neither team is ranked, although I think this is more interesting to most people than the news that Tiger went to the range yesterday.

Someone needs to tell them it's Acker, not Aker.  I've heard a few of the ESPN guys say it wrong.  I did like how the one anchor (Neil Everett?) corrected Stuart Scott when he said Buzz was wearing Carolina blue and reminded him that Marquette now also wears the powder blue.  Scott knows absolutely nothing about college hoops except UNC.

For all this talk of the "unranked" excuse for why there wasn't more coverage, I had to have seen the final minute of that Northern Iowa-Missouri game 10 times in that broadcast.  I mean, nice shot, but seriously?

Mizzou - Iowa State you mean.  Nice to see our own Scott Christopherson making critical turnovers.

I wanted to see DJO's dunk on top 10 plays

College Hoops Tonight (or whatever it's called) on ESPN2...when asking the guys the "win/team" of the night, Jay Williams said Marquette. The Big East also led off ESPNEws coverage from 11 p.m on and the MU game was third.

Fixed for accuracy.

"Booyah" is like nails on a chalkboard for me.
