I am considering purchasing a Mac Mini to hook up to my 1080p 52" HDTV. Eventually, I will probably get the equipment I need to record and replay video (EyeTV or something similar), but right now, the sole purpose is to watch streaming sports, e.g. ESPN360 and MLB games. I have a Powerbook G4 that I sometimes link to my TV with a DVI-HDMI cable and my guess is that the processor (1.67 GHz) simply isn't fast enough to keep up or the video card just sucks as the picture is choppy and a touch grainy (modem speeds are in excess of 5 mbps consistently).
Does anyone have a Core 2 Duo Mac (laptop or desktop) hooked up to an HDTV via DVI-HDMI, and if so, how is the playback? I'm specifically interested in anyone who has a MLB.tv subscription and how good (or not) the HD picture is on the HDTV. Specs and modem speeds would be a big help.
I hooked the girlfriend's PC up to her 26" LCD using VGA, and 360 actually looked great.
I have a Mac Mini, I want to try using the DVI-HDMI adapter to see what it looks like on my 40" Toshiba, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I have a 22" HD monitor, hooked up with DVI and I can tell you that looks great for 360.
As for MLB, I generally get MLB Extra Innings, so I can't tell you much about MLB.tv
I have a Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro that I hook up to my 43 inch Samsung DLP TV to watch MU games on ESPN360. I also have an audio cable that I can run from my laptop to my surround sound. The picture is pretty decent. Not HD, but for streaming through a web browser, can't complain.
Rumor has it Apple is prepping a Mac Mini refresh that would finally include an HDMI out, along with processor upgrades, etc. I would recommend waiting a bit longer if you can and either grab one of these new ones, or get one of the older ones at a much reduced price as they try to clear inventory.
