Title: What Day Could MU Play in Tournament?
Post by: THEbig0 on March 01, 2010, 03:43:26 PM
In one of the stupidest moves ever, I set the closing date for buying my first house on Friday, March 19th.  I don't know what I was thinking.  But I heard that if MU makes the tourney they won't be scheduled on days when Milwaukee hosts, is that true?  If so, I'll be saved any worry as Milwaukee hosts on Friday/Sunday I believe.

Anyone know?

I'm pretty certain that that is not true at all.

Its possible they could play friday sunday but I think the committee tries to avoid it if they can.  No rule against it tho

Last night on ESPN's College Basketball Final, Lunardi said that they used to avoid having teams play on the days their school is hosting games, but that isn't the case anymore.

Actually, the rules have changed and MU could play on either Thursday or Friday.  Thursday games are at New Orleans/Providence/San Jose/ OklahomaCity and Friday games are at Milwaukee/Buffalo/Jacksonville/Spokane.  I suspect that MU will be moved west to San Jose or Spokane.  A tossup as to date.  A Buffalo invite would be a Lazar Hayward homecoming.

If you're not in the Chicago area, disregard this post.  However, if you're in the Chicago area, I could suggest to have you sign a power of attorney and I could go close the deal for you.  Or, you could pre-sign with your lender and then I'd close the rest of the deal without you.  However two things are preventing me from doing that.

1.  As a lawyer, I'm prohibited from soliciting employment; and more importantly

2.  I'll be watching a Warrior victory.

If we play on that Friday, there will probably be more people watching the TVs in the atriums at the BC than in the seating bowl as Kentucky blows the doors off the likes of Poor Bastard State.

Simple, just delay the closing.

Or schedule it for 9:00 AM

I would just delay, but we negotiated with the seller to have it happen earlier as part of our negotiation, and my wife has a seminar until 3:00 that day.  I am counting on a Thursday game, but might have to make a last second change of plans...or borrow someone's iPhone to watch online.

Lets just win one of the next two before you postpone your closing.

I can't believe the seller wouldn't want to postpone until Monday given that the Warriors may be playing...some people's priorities are so screwed up!

Agreed. While I love discussing tourney possibilities, I'd rather wait until we KNOW for sure we'll be there, and not jump the gun.

Look - the seller probably overlooked it as well, and is now undoubtedly in a similar panicked state.  Both parties will want to re-schedule given this new information.

So really you are only screwed if we play in the afternoon session on Friday?  There are 4 sessions on each day (early afternoon, late afternoon, early evening, and late evening.), so a total of 8 possible times MU could be playing on Thurs/Friday.  Only a 12.5% chance that will happen.  But if you factor the early session on Friday, where you would have to limit you alcohol intake, because I imagine you don't want to go sign for your new house all banged up, the % rises to 25%.

Best of luck!

WE ARE MARQUETTE!

That's what lawyers are for.  Don't worry about getting liquored up.  He's got your back..........unless of course he's a Warrior and watches the game with you.
