If you haven't heard the story by now, you'll probably hear/read about it tomorrow. After last nights MU/DePaul game, a "over-served" Marquette fan (apparently unprovoked) attacked and beat up ESPN1000 radio personality Chet Coppock. He did quite a number on him too.
One fan does not make up or represent an entire fandom, but this is not what you like to hear about and see of the Marquette faithful.
Knowing of Chet, he's not the type to instigate a fight. His side of the story is that he was unprovoked and blindsided while leaving the Allstate Arena. Jaime, who's last name I don't remember, of Milwaukee was arrested and charged with assult.
I don't know how to put the picture up here, but if you want to see what Chet looks like, go here:

Here he is--ouch!

dp...stupid idiots...
I see that he has his fur coat on and maybe the individual who assaulted him was a PETA member.
That is ridiculous!! Coppock is a very nice guy...he's also about 60!!
Your dime, your dance floor...
So how do we know it was an MU fan? ESPN 1000 just says he was jumped.
Chet is a very nice old man. Sorry to hear about this.

The guys name was listed in the article, he is from Milwaukee, and the guys name also appears in the Alumi Association website. What an idiot....

EDIT: OOPS, sorry, I did not see the other thread.
Still hate Coppock, had to find this thread to celebrate the great occasion and share.
You mean Chet Chit-Chat?
Simply embarrassing

Not really. The story has slowly leaked on Chicago sports radio, which made me think of this thread again. Chet was far from innocent in this, more like a catalyst.

You may want to follow the news from 2010 which a says that JW was found guilty and that Chet was filing civil suit against him.

Heh, I know Jamie. Never knew he hit some old guy, though.
Definitely not the type of guy that normally starts fights. Must have been something else up.
Nice thread necromancy, btw, PTM. Can't wait until the season starts!

Of course he lost, he hit him. Chet dropped the civil suit though, wonder why? I guess there's no need to wonder as Chet's big mouth got him hit. The guy is almost a seven-footer and likes to talk.
The story was told on 670 on Saturday morning if you can go back and listen to it. Paraphrase, Chet talked a big game and told the Marquette guy to meet him outside after the game. Marquette guy met him, Chet ran his mouth more and got popped.

He was like 60 years old at the time! What a horrible thing to bring up again.
Coppock is a jag.
Sucker punching a guy in the parking lot of a sporting event makes you an even bigger jag.
I didn't think it'd be that easy to find JW online.
Is Coppock still on the air?

Yes. On WLS.
He does the Notre Dame pre-game show.

The Tribune article form 2008 indicates that Mr. Coppock is a versatile jag;
"....Coppock, who is serving a suspension over an insensitive remark about Jews on the air...."
How do you get sucker punched after calling someone out to meet you outside, meeting them outside, and then insulting them again? That's a whole new definition of sucker.
Escalating the action to a physical altercation, even if that was verbally invited by the other party-I don't know that it was, but it would hardly be surprising under these circumstances-is not excusable, but Mr. Waldron has paid the price for losing his cool.
did I miss something? Why was this hoopalooped?
Even Coppick protegie Daaa Maaa Naaaa has turned on Coppick.

Well, the puncher was charged with and found guilty of battery, despite the mutual combat situation you describe.
So perhaps Coppock's version of events is more accurate than yours.

Turned on Coppick quite awhile ago (after Coppick turned on him with a legendary voicemail rant after Daaa Maaa Naaaa got his own radio gig), though they did reconcile for a bit.
