Since I haven't lived in Wisconsin for 26 years +/-, I was wondering if there were any high quality big kids currently playing high school ball in Wisconsin. The reason for the question, is that there is a lot of debate about what types of kids MU should be adding to their roster, and obviously Marquette has a much better chance of landing a Wisconsin high school player, than say an Indiana kid. So, anybody know of any 6'8"+ kids in the class of 2011 or 2012?
As an aside, Indiana has been a hotbed of high school basketball for as long as I've been here, and the last 6-7 years has produced a lot of NBA talent. Having said that, there's not that many big kids that come to mind in the past or upcoming classes. Travis Carroll going to Purdue and Deshaun Thomas (although he may be 6'7") going to Ohio State next year. Then there's the Zeller kid and maybe one or two others. My point is that I think Buzz's best shot is to identify the top big kids in Wisconsin early on, let them know of MU's interest, and then hopefully land one or more. It's going to be tough to go to
out of state and convince a top tier post to play at MU. I'm not saying we shouldn't continue to try, but I think our best bet is Wisconsin high school talent. My question is, is there any?

At a quick glance, no one in 2011...maybe the 6'10" kid from Vincent in 2012.
Does Enos Henrickson have any eligibility remaining?
Aside from the fact that Wisconsin generally lacks home-grown talent above 6-8, if there's a legit 4 or 5 somewhere in Wisconsin who hasn't already committed to the likes of UNC, UK, UCLA, etc., you can believe Bo will already be cozy on the guy's couch with a snifter of port when Buzz comes knocking at the door. And unless the guy is from the Madison or Milwaukee area, 95% of the time he chooses UW before MU.
In the rural areas of Wisconsin, the "Bucky indoctrination" is at full coverage. You might be able to convince someone from Madison, Milwaukee or the Fox Valley to try their hand at MU, but convincing some kid from Rhinelander - who has probably grown up dreaming of playing for the Badgers and Packers - is going to be an uphill battle for Buzz the entire way. And even then, you have to be able to convince his parents that downtown Milwaukee is the right place for him.
(Insert cracked sidewalk allusion.)
That being said, I don't believe that there are any four- or five-star 2010-12 bigs in Wisconsin.
Double post -- sorry.
The last 5 star big was Brian Butch I believe. And he redshirted his freshman year.
Yeah - I still consider that to be really weird.
Any promising middle schoolers????
I know a lot of Wisconsinites who are 5'6" and go about 275lbs., but not many who are male.

Well Said.
People outside of Milwaukee area are "afraid" of Milwaukee, not to mention aren't really aware that MU is in Milwaukee.
I went back home for 5 year reunion a few years back. I told people that I had graduated from Marquette and they wanted to know if I lived in Michigan.
It's hard to get a rural kid to consider MU when their parents wear red and white and they've worn read and white all their lives.

So how come the Women's Basketball team isn't pancaking all the other teams in the Big East?
