Title: CBS College Basketball Road Trip
Post by: MightyPen on February 15, 2010, 06:20:57 PM
Looking to pick your brains, Eagles nation. The CBS Sportsline College Basketball Roadtrip Blog will be rolling into Marquette on February 18, the night of the Pitt game -- and we'll be indulging in all things Eagles to get to the root of what it means to be a Marquette basketball fan.

What we're looking for is a guide, a student host, anyone who can anyone offer any ideas or usher us around to the sure-fire things we HAVE to do to experience the full Marquette experience? Unique, strange traditions? Fun things going on? Bars full of rabid fans? Can't-miss parties?

Look forward to hearing your thoughts, Eagles, and mixing it up with you guys this Thursday.

First thing you should know, Mighty Pen, is that it is the Warriors, not the Eagles.

The Marquette experience begins and ends with all things, Warriors.

Purge any and all things Crean related.

Hmmmm that means you want the Al gone.....and you want them out of the Big East conference, and you want the 2003 Final Four stricken from the record books.....and.... ::)

irregardless of who is the host, some of the things that you have to check out include:

Ricky's on State.  Nice little dive bar.
Real Chili.  For breakfast @ 2am
O'Donnell Hall:  lots of hot chicks there
Art's Performing Center:  every campus visit needs a review of the cultural aspect of the area.

We'll just name the school Crean University and have a gold phallic symptom for a mascot. Yeah, we can be the Crean University Putzes. Reading your post, one might get the erroneous impression that the dude turds gold nuggets.
All those items mentioned, were a direct result of the university adminstration making a commitment to the men's basketball program, including compensating the coach equally to any other program in the country.

how do you personify a phallic symptom? will it be like crypty the cryptospomordium?

while Brad is an excellent TV host / reporter...I don't think he would be the best tour guide for someone looking for the fan experience.
How about one of the kids who is in the front row at every game every week....

Check in with the Office of Admissions for an excellent tour guide. I should know. :)

BTW, I know it's trite but the Joan of Arc chapel is always a gorgeous shot.

Maybe hit Ricky's on State followed by a prayer service at the Joan of Arc chapel.

Too bad you won't be there for St. Patrick's Day.  People were lined up around the block in a snowstorm for pitchers of green beer at 6 AM and a t-shirt.  Please tell me they still do that.

Perhaps if you are lucky, you can fit in a sighting of the Godmobile.  No visit to campus is complete without it.

It's not a big-kid word:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irregardless

"Most dictionaries list it as 'incorrect' or 'nonstandard'."

Jaysus, I'm trying to tell the CBS dude some good spots to go and you guys are nitpicking on regardless/irregardless.  CBS dude, disqualify these 4 chuckleheads from being your tour guide.

EDIT:  and I didn't go to Madison, but work about a mile away from campus---can smell the cow sh!t most days---proximity must be eroding my MU education.

Funny you should bring that up. I am one of four seniors that are trying to start/restart the St. Patty's Day tradition. Marquette and many universities plan St. Patty's day over spring break. Well, we plan on doing an Unofficial St. Patrick's Day on March 12, 2010. (See unofficial at Illinois)

We have met with Caf's managers and they are opening up early and giving out tshirt specials.

if they are looking for bars full of rabid fans and can't miss parties, do you really think Admissions would be the right way to go?

Thanks for suggesting me, guys. C.M. got in touch with me and I spent a while trying to compile the very best list of antics, traditions, and more that the CBS crew could absorb at Marquette.

While I may only claim three years of living on MU's campus, I've done my very best to soak in as much Marquette history as I can. This feature should do the great history here some justice.

Thanks for this opportunity, everyone.

Congratulations man, why didn't you tell us you got promoted and now work at the Badger Bus Depot?

So i'm curious where is the most popular place is to hang out after the games.  As a alumnus, I just usually wander around looking for a crowded bar to hang our with my MU brethren.
