Title: Gottleib
Post by: 21Jumpstreet on February 12, 2010, 08:18:49 AM
Well, we know Gottleib is not a Marquette supporter, he chose MU to make the tournament this morning.  USF, UL, UND out.  He says, "Marquette is the most likely lock, and has some close losses."  Great shot with win this Saturday.

Yeah that was great to hear from gottlieb. A win this weekend would be huge for us!

People need to grow up, stop being so sensitvei, and stop thinking Gottlieb hates Marquette. I highly doubt he has special hate in his heart specifically for MU.

Hes brash (some would say an ass)...but that is his shtick.

speaking of talking heads, Jay Bilas has liked marquette a lot as far as I can remember. does he just like everybody, like a dick vitale?

Bilas always speaks good about MU when they played on Big Monday.  But maybe his M.O. is to hype the teams he's watching.  Since MU hasn't had any Big Monday games this year (and won't), I haven't heard him say a thing about MU, good or bad.

Pretty sure no one said anything about hating Marquette, and it has been discussed before that he rarely gives MU the love.  I absolutely agree he has no specific hatred for MU, but a person who typically does not offer many positives about MU giving the nod to us for the tourney is nice.  It is positive to hear MU gaining more momentum, even if the talking heads have nothing to do with the selection.

If you listen to Gottlieb, he's straight on with his analysis. You may not k
like what he's saying, but he's giving an honest opinion. Bilas, whom I like also, usually is not very critical of teams. When he is, it's usually soft pedalled.
He always stroked Crean when he was here. Typically picked MU as a sleeper or FF team in the Tourney. Guess Tulsa, Alabama, and Stanford didn't get the email.

Gottleib doesn't give anyone love. That is just who he is. So when he does say some positive things he isn't just blowing smoke up your ass.

Why havent we had any Big Monday games? And what's up with rivalry week this year? UConn-Syr, Duke-UNC, Backyard Brawl, what else? We definitely took a dip in terms of national exposure this year.

The Big Monday games are really geared for the east coast schools.  MU wasn't expected to do much this year, so I can see why they weren't included.  Hopefully next year...

Our DePaul game on ESPN2 was part of rivalry week.

Coming into this year, why would we deserve a Big Monday game?

Why not? I believe ND has had at least one. I read somewhere that Cincy's AD has been begging the BE to get the more exposure and they finally got one this year as well. Im sure Nova, UConn and Syracuse dont have to do any politicing and ESPN is more than happy to host them, but they do have to play someone, no?

ND is ND, and they draw ratings...
Cincy probably for a couple reasons, but I'm sure Lance Stephenson is one.
Nova, top 5 team in the country, no brainer
'Cuse, top 5 team in the country, no brainer
UCONN is UCONN

MU was picked to finish 12th in the BE...you don't see the SH, USF, or even Pitt get a Big Monday game this year.

It's ok, hopefully they will get one next year.

At the time they put together the National TV schedule...MU had absolutely no juice, no reason to be on National TV.

Other than the Big 12 game that's the 2nd half of the double header every week.

Big Monday is not geared to East Coast Schools. It is based on matchups and who is expected to be competitive in the conference. MU was preseason 12, thus no Big Monday.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good assumption.

Well, I guess I didn't find it necessary to state to obvious...that I was talking about the BE portion of Big Monday.   ::)

I'll give you that they'll be biased towards having a game being hosted by one of the eastern schools for scheduling purposes, but if Marquette & Cincinnati looks like the big matchup for the year, they'll put that on.

Gottleib is a giant tool bag, but he doesn't have a bias for or against Marquette.

Restating the obvious, Marquette is not on TV because we are not ranked and have not been all season.  ESPN wants as many top 25 matchups as it can get while balancing coverage of the power conferences.  Big East gets a ton of exposure.

Gottlieb was born in Milwaukee and considered it as a transfer destination.  He has nothing against us.  I think Bilas tells it like it is and is far more insightful than most of the guys on ESPN.

You have to love how Gottlieb punishes Andy Katz on espn.
