Title: Does JB own the Big East?
Post by: karavotsos on February 10, 2010, 07:59:39 PM
That timeout call was ridiculous.  Buzz can't get a timeout when he's screaming at an official 2 feet away.  JB gets a timeout when his team doesn't even have the ball.

I think it was a mistake on the part of the official rather than anything underhanded, but I'll bet UConn fans are pretty pissed right now.

And wtf was with UConn's play with about 30 seconds left?  They did the same thing against Michigan at the end... Walker and Dyson pass back and forth on the perimeter and then take (and miss) a mediocre 3.  That's the shot you want?

Off topic, but how much is UConn's record reflective of the fact that they are playing withouth thier true head coach?

Yes, Jimmy Butler does own the Big East!

They had been penetrating the zone the whole game.  You think they would have sent Walker-preferably-or Dyson past Rautins.  Ball screen Rautins, but reject it because Rautins had started overplaying it pretty hard.  I thought he could have fouled out a couple of times the way he was bodying them coming off the screen.  I agree the three was a weak play.

Honestly, I think it was the right call...Boeheim had been calling for a timeout literally that whole drive to the basket and the official FINALLY realized Boeheim was yelling at him. Had Syracuse not been granted the timeout, Boeheim would have had more to be upset about than UConn. And if you noticed, there was absolutely no argument from the UConn side when the call was made (although if Calhoun was there, that may have been a little different...)

UConn shouldn't have anything to complain abuot....they gave up the offensive rebound in the first place and then still had a chance to get a stop after the timeout was granted and didn't and then had a chance to come down and tie the game or take the lead and didn't

I don't think Calhoun has ever fully recovered from the 6OT game.

I dont agree with the call...but I don't think I've ever seen Jim Boeheim so ticked off before. I can read lips and Scoop Jackson heard all about his drive to the hoop during their exchange at the beginning of the timeout.

I think JB said, "You almost lost us the f'ing game."

There's no rule against calling a time out when your team is driving to the basket, which they were when JB asked for the TO.  Between the calling of the TO and the natural delay to the ref's whistle, a shot was taken.  I don't know what the rulebook says about that situation.  It looked bad watching it, but probably the right call was made.

That being said, sucks to be UConn.

Whens the last time UCONN, UNC, and UCLA haven't been in the tournament?  :o
