Probably too early to obsess about this..but we were 55 in RealtimeRPI at the start of the week. I'd imagine Georgetown losing hurt. Was disappointed to see Xavier go down big to Dayton today. And Richmond beat Temple. All of this is irrelevant if MU can go 5-2 maybe even 4-3 these last 7. Pat Forde of ESPN was doing the Lville Rutgers game today, and had MU and LVille as being in the tourney as of today + the 5 locks.

That isnt updated through today. We will probably be in the high 50s.
Georgetown beat #2 Nova today.
We havent played either Richmond or Temple.

Right, I was just pointing out Richmond beating Temple and Dayton beating Xavier as being possibly hurtful to MU in that perhaps both Dayton and Richmond could be Bubble Teams - although both Richmond and Dayton have RPI of 33 and 38. Look at Dayton's schedule/results (before today's win against Xavier they were 38) Doens't seem that impressive - but this is the benefit of not scheduling games with teams ranked between 200-330 - Dayton scheduled 2..MU scheduled 6..

Does Georgetown beating Villanova actually hurt us RPI wise since we played Villanova twice and Georgetown only once?

Good question. I would think that it would still help, even though Villy losing might slightly reduce our strength of schedule. Ultimately, every quality/signature win GTown has the rest of the way will help MU.

We would have been much better off if Villanova won from two perspectives:
First, it clearly hurts us from an RPI perspective. The RPI doesn't care that we beat GU and lost to VU. It cares that our opponents' record will reflect
one more win and
two more losses (and before someone asks, no, the home/road adjustment isn't made for opponents' record).
Second, GU is one of the teams we are chasing with a reasonable chance of overtaking. Had they lost today, they would have dropped into a tie with us--and we would gain the advantage in the tournament based on the tie-breaker.
Instead, they still have a one-game advantage.

A good matchup in the BET would be nice for the RPI.
We need Providence to get some wins, but their schedule upcoming is really tough. They're at 101 right now a team gets "credit" for wins against top 100 teams.
We're only 3-6 against top 100 RPI teams right now. Getting PC below 100 moves that record to 5-6.

Good point -I was really hoping NC State was gonna pull that game out against Georgia Tech yesterday..might have been enough to move them into the Top 100, and cancel out 1 bad defeat.
Bottom line is we just have to take care of business. A win this weekend would be huge because USF is red hot and on everyone's up and coming list. Can't worry about what the other teamsm are doing. The schedule breaks in our favor now, we just cannot lay an egg. Just win baby and we are in.

59 at the start of today according to CBS Sports. Not sure how accurate they are, but they usually seem to be right on...I just like the presentation of their team breakdown (pretty simplistic, but easy to understand). One small adjustment of note is that Providence went from the 75-100 to the 101-200 category because we beat them...two wins therefore a little less valuable, but based on their brutal schedule they won't be re-entering the top 100 since they would be lucky to win more than one game the rest of the way.

Unfortunately, by the time MU plays anyone that would be of significant help in the BET, RPI will be largely a moot statistic in the eyes of the committee. Don't get me wrong, a signature win in the BET will definitely help MU gain consideration if they are already on the bubble, but by "Selection Thursday" the meaning of the win itself will be what the committee is concerned about, not a few-point jump in RPI.
RPI is all moot right now. If we finish 5-2 for an overall conference record of 11-7 were are just fine. 5-2 would give us atleast 3 wins against teams right their on the bubble with us. 4-3 would probably mean that we need a big east tourney win maybe 2 but thats very dueable. Looking back the DePaul loss really hurts because if we would have won that one there really would be nothing to keep us from getting in.

If we go 5-2 over last 7, we are in.
No doubt!
