Title: selloutmarquette.com
Post by: MonsterWebWarrior on February 05, 2010, 10:20:29 PM
For those MU fans in the NJ area, get your tickets now.  Only 590 left.

why do schools, Marquette included, feel the need to make these sites to sell the few remaining tickets? i mean, i guess its nice to know how many seats are left in the arena. but as a marketing ploy, aren't they kind of tacky?  they always struck me as an unfortunate sort of "come to be a part of the sellout, not to enjoy the game" type of thing.

PS, this wasn't meant in any way to criticize posting the site, i thought it was a cool heads up for east coast MU fans.  More just a question as to that type of site generally.

To be fair, it's SHU trying to sell out the game versus visiting MU.

Speaking of which, Spiral and I will be traveling there (and at the St Johns game in NY a few days earlier), so if anyone wants to organize an informal MUScoop NY/NJ gathering sometime around those games, we'd be there! (I'd offer to "host", but I know nothing of the area).

yeah, i suppose, but we've done those promotions too.  i wish I could remember which team (i want to say UConn) on a weekday night last year.  also I heard a promotion like that was run for the women this year.  Not a big deal I suppose, but it just seems like an unnecessary point of pride to advertise your lack of sellout in order to try to get aforementioned sellout.

Wow that website is identical to the selloutuconn.com website Marquette put up last year.  Bush league.

However they don't yet have marquettesoldout.com

if the sites are identical it leads me to believe that ours wasn't original, just a cookie cutter contract with a developer somewhere who built a template and tweaks it for their clients. any charge of bush league might hit us with some splash damage.

It wouldn't be the first time something that originated with MU has been copied.  The Zombie Nation song was first played by MU (vs. Wake Forest when we had D. Wade and they had Josh Howard).  The big-heads may have been an improvement on a So. Cal. school's idea though...

EDIT:  It was Chris Paul, not Howard

Unless we're charging the developers with being bush league.

I'm not sure it originated with Marquette.  These types of things have been around for years.

Well, I guess I would rather have the University do what it can to get a good crowd there instead of simply opening the doors and hoping people show up.

Both sites were made by a company called Row27 based out of the Twin Cities.  They have done other sites, intro videos and commercials for teams across the country.

I guess Nelligan Sports doesn't offer that type of service.  Anyhoo, despite the awkward Sunday at noon start I'll be making my way to North Jersey for the game so long as there isn't another ridiculous snowstorm.

You were right it was Howard, not Paul.  Paul's freshman year was '03-'04.

Somehow, after the original "sell out uconn" (who was #1 or #2 in the country at the time, and we were fighting for pole position in the Big East), it seems like a pale knockoff to try to "sell out" a game against an unranked team in a rebuilding year.

But for Hall I guess you gotta start somewhere.
