Assume that Marquette beats Florida State at WDW.
Assume they beat WVU on the road.
Assume they split with Nova.
Assume they beat DePaul in Chicago.
This team could just as easily be at 17-4 overall, 7-2 in the BE and in sole possession of third place as opposed to where they are right now. The only losses would have been to two top 5 teams (Cuse and Nova), a top 20 team (Wisco) and an early season loss to NC State.
This team is a few lucky (or unlucky bounces) from being a top 15 team and perhaps a projected 3 seed. But instead, and assuming they take care of business the rest of the way, MU is probably going to sneak into the tourney as a 11 or 12 seed. I'm not a linguistics expert, but I think this qualifies as "involuntary sandbagging."
If I'm a 5 or 6 seed and I draw Marquette, I'd be furious.

Agreed. Obviously not the way I envisioned MU making the tourney (if all goes well) but there is less pressure on us going into the tournament as a high seed which I like. Yet right now there is pressure on the team to go on a run in order to get into the dance to begin with. There is more pressure on this team currently than there would be if we made the tournament.
Marquette is a tough draw because no one can really stop them. Jimmy and Lazar are big mismatches for bigs and DJO is tough to stop. If Acker and Cubillan are hitting, look out.
At the same time, Acker and Cubillan could be off, Lazar could go 4-15 from the field, and we could get dominated inside just as easily.

If no one could stop us, we would be undefeated.
We lost to DePaul. Anything is possible.

I didn't see them making the tournament, so I'm thrilled if we get in.
