Title: Drop "Thunderstruck" and return to the slow fight song for tip-off
Post by: GregClausenForever on January 27, 2010, 03:10:15 PM
Whom do we petition to get rid of "Thunderstruck" at tip?  It's so cliched.

I loved the slowly building fight song.  Way better.  And it makes for better over-the-head clapping by the student section.

Thunderstruck may be cliche, but it is now a staple and I for one prefer it to the slow fight song.

I've been saying that we need to go back to the slow to fast for years!

When Thunderstruck was played previous years there wasn't just the lame over the head clapping.  The students on the metal bleachers would jump up and land with a significant "BOOM BOOM!" during the Thun-dah part of the song in addition to normal clapping along.

The student section is pretty weak this year.  Decent turnout but a general lack of spirit.

I remember seeing Thunderstruck played to sports clips in the late 80s when I was a kid.  I was actually thinking "I Gotta Feeling" by Black Eyed Peas would be a good tip-off or intro song.

I really hope that you simply forgot to "teal" that last part of your comment.

Vomits and mouth and debates plans to never go to a Marquette game again.

I'm a fan favorite of when teams put on Phil Collins, in the air tonight. I know Penn state does it for football and the entire stadium goes crazy. It's kin of weird but it gets you amped up.

The game atmosphere is too over-produced. They must think it's a crappy NBA team on the court.

Get rid of Thunderstruck, the big heads, cotton eye joe. Our fight song is tremendously underused

Why stop there?

Let's just have two people from each school playing NCAA Bball on Xbox over the jumbotron.

The Packers also do it before kickoff, it's a lame song from a stupid pop group.  Epic.Fail.

EDIT:

The fail is on DePaul and Green Bay, not on the poster who suggested using it.

Actually the song was not released until 1990.  I agree with the fight song.

The only thing that I don't like about it is the slow clap. People are too stupid to pace it properly and it never times out to the tip right.

My opinion is a 20 year old song is still outdated if overused as this one.

Yeah I should have put that in teal I guess.  They need a new song.

I went to a Duke game last year and the band played "Everytime we Touch" and the student section went absolutely nuts.  I know, I know, MU is not Duke and everyone hates that song.  Just impressive to see the reaction to a song like that.

I was watching a game on TV during Xmas break against a slouch team that was sparsely attended and very quiet, might have been a nice snow that night.  Thought it was funny when they came back from a commercial and the band was playing Quiet Riot's Come on Feel the Noise.  This is when 20-40 year old songs come in handy.

As long as we're being particular, the song is "Cum on Feel the Noize".  That song is basically a Milwaukee anthem.

I suggest "Add It Up" by the Violent femmes. milwaukee band, good tune for the outro part.

"day after day, i get angry and I will say, but the day is in my sight when I take a bow and say good night"

not the "why can't i get just one unnatural carnal knowledge" part

You've got to be kidding.  What about a song that has come out during the lifetime of the current MU students?

Wow, it really must be "What I dislike most about Marquette Basketball Week".  Somehow I forgot to mark it down on my calendar.  Big Heads, National Anthem, and now Thunderstruck.

Ok, I've got mine...games on ESPNU.  I can only get them at the sports bar, so I don't get sound.  MU should boycott & forfeit any games placed on ESPNU - that'll fix em!

Hell's Bells is the most bad as$ intro in all of MLB for Trevor Hoffman. I wouldn't mind a switch from Thunderstruck to Hell's Bells.

I like Thunderstruck because you can play a drinking game to it. Its either a circle drinking game or just drink every time they say "Thun-dah!"

When I played in band I used to like playing the slow to fast Ring out. I wish we used thunderstruck and the slow to fast.

Also it's too bad that for all the money students are paying now to go to MU, they can't get a slow clap timed right

Can we at least agree that the arena mix of 7 nation army is awesome?
