Title: EWill and Junior?
Post by: warriorfred on January 23, 2010, 02:40:13 PM
There are 9 minutes left and the game is over.  Why not actually play EWill and Junior?  I hate to keep beating this drum, but this is a rebuilding season.  The tourney is out of the question.  Why not coach each game as a rebuilding and learning experience?

Because doing so is unfair to the seniors that have put in the work to get to this point, and it sets a bad precedent going forward.

all of this is wrong.

The game is never over with 7 minutes left.

The tourney is not out of the question... its unlikely.

I remember when Marquette won that national championship in "Fairness" back in 1989, man, we partied all night.

It's a team sport, you think about the team; not just the seniors.

I'm not sure what Erik Williams will learn from getting thrown around and fouling for the next 4 minutes.

No substitute for game experience.

I love cliches.

Sometimes cliches are true.  Just because you love that cliche, does not mean it is wrong.

Game experience is very important, and the young players on the team need that experience.

I'm not understanding something about your 1989 "fairness" party, but I would think Buzz has the best interest of the team in mind.  I wonder what kind of message it sends to a team when you put in reserves with 7 min. left in this game.

Deciding your season is over and quiting on the guys you have to build for the future is never a good thing for any team.  The only lesson anyone learns is that when you are under manned, the best thing to do is just lay down.

Nothing like game experience.

Can we stop asking for EWill (Junior now) to get in every game!

After almost every game there is a thread about it.  Don't you get sick of asking the same question and getting the same answers?

They'll play when they can contribute greater than the other players.

I thought the game was over?

It is.  One minute left down by six - over.  Marquette is no DePaul - this year.

I can't believe you are trying to make that argument.

Even though I vehemently disagree with the decision, I will take the oath and not bring this up again.

What I don't understand about Buzz never playing Williams is that the reason given as that he doesn't play defense well. But this MU team is pretty weak on defense up and down the roster. MU consistently lets the other team make near or more than 50 percent of their shots. How much worse could he be than the starters on defense? It's not like any of them are lock down defenders.

He's been practicing with the team since what, August?  How long does it take the coaches to teach him something resembling decent defense?

Just because you are repeatedly taught the correct thing to do doesn't mean that you will automatically be able to use it on the court comfortably.  Some guys pick things up right away, some take quite awhile, some never get it.

I just Hope EWill is not that latter, because he's shown offensive flashes.

Junior better get in every game!  Otherwise, what was the point of pulling his redshirt?

I haven't seen all the games or a lot of EW, but from I have seen there's been nothing to indicate he's got some offensive game at this level yet.
