go.
big fracking deal. Even sampson had a weakness.
Jimmy is like 1.5 BE players, so it all averages out.
this again?
please just close this
His 8 for 9, 23 point outing has you questioning your convictions so you decided to come here and bash him to show everyone how cool you are before your whole world gets turned upside down.
Am I close?

go.
If 6-6 from 3 in a conference game indicates a non-Big East player, I would hate to have to play in the Big East...
oh wait...
He is more of a Big East caliber point guard than Fulce is a Big East caliber center. That is not a knock on Fulce, who is playing out of position. They both have the toughness we need. They have Big East toughness and team dedication and do whatever it takes to win. We know we cannot say that about Maymon, who had more talent.
I took this as someone eating crow....no???
One game isn't going to change anything on my opinion about a player and points is not the end all be all of a basketball player, there's this thing called defense.
Acker averaged 5 ppg against the 4 good BE teams we've played so far. In 22 mpg. And we're talking about a 5th year senior here.
Do I have to start a thread trashing Acker everytime he's dropping 5-8 points and playing bad defense?
Anyway, he had a great shooting night and I hope he keeps it up. I'll be happy to be wrong and I'm not going to root against a player on my team.
I have been a proponent that Acker is not a BEast caliber PG. Nothing against him. He is just short and thin and that is a liability against the bigger and stronger points in the Beast.
he has been a pleasant surprise this year, but we are only 5 games into the conference season, and his performance against Providence was great, but let's see how he does against other opponents.
A bigger criticism is that there should be no reason to have Coobi and Acker in there at the same time---yet they still play 10 plus minutes together each game. We have enough other talent to stop doing that. DJO will be a stud, and should be getting at least 30 minutes a game. Let Cooby and Acker split time at the Point, not play together.
Ummmmm......unless I'm missing something even more obvious, I'm pretty sure the title was meant sarcastically, perhaps calling out people who had previously issued said statement. Some people need to take themselves less seriously.
The sky is blue
Give it a rest already people.
We get it....Acker is undersized and is therefore limited on defense, but others admire his toughness and shooting ability. Must we have the same thread every two weeks trashing our player for no apparent reason???

There's a reason that Rudy didn't start for the team in his own movie.

The person who started the thread was trying to mock those who have called Acker not BE caliber.
Are people really this clueless?

There have been so many posts continually bashing Acker and Cubillian that I wouldn't have put it past someone to post this for real. I'm proud of those guys. They might not be the "marquee" players that James, McNeal, Matthews, Hayward, Butler, DJO were/are but they play their hearts out for this team. They've played their roles and played them well. It doesn't irritate me to see sh!t like this, it flat out pisses me off. Even if it's a joke.
This year's team is better than last year's in the sense that they play as a cohesive unit and they all are out there looking out for each other. The ball movement these guys put together on Sunday made me dizzy. McNeal and James, while could be forgiven for doing so since they had the goods to back it up, showboated A TON on the court last year. Very rarely do you see any of the guys this year play for themselves. I'm proud of every single one of these players, and am very proud of our seniors - ALL of them.
Off the soapbox. Random question: how do you put previous post in the blue boxes...!??!

Well said, +1. Not sure of the history of this topic on MU Scoop, but agree with above poster. Acker and Cubiallan get the most out of their ability, work their tails off, and have generally always had good attitudes. This makes them winners in my book. Though not prototypical Big East players, due to their size - they have a ton of heart, and for that we should give them their due, and our respect.
I am glad Acker and Cubes are on the team and both have made significant contributions. I posted after the FL tourney that one or the other needs to make a significant contribution in a game for MU to have a chance to win that game. Such a contribution forces other teams to play our more gifted players straight up. Thus far my theory has been proven correct in both of MU's BE wins.
With that said, I hope players like Acker and Cubes (in terms of physical ability and makeup) are never recruited by MU again.

well said Ners. I think the people that come on a nd say acker and cubi suck are on the fringe as well as those that come on nad asy they are great are on the fringe on the other side. i think a huge majority of Mu fans probably in the 90th percentile would agree wholehaertedly with your psoition.
Lastly, to the people all upset about the criticisms of acker that are then using a 23 point game as evidence. go back and read the criticisms of him. i dont think very many people have ever knocked his offensive abilities. MU's greatest weakness this year has been dribble penetration and Acker and Cubi have been the 2 biggest victims. i think that has been the vast majority of the criticsm and IMo rightfully so. compare theire defnse to say that of DJ last year...night and day.
Random question # 2 - how do you put part of a previous post in the blue box?
Thanks.

The answer was already in this thread...
No, that tells you how to quote an entire post. My question is how do you select only part of a previous post to display. Sorry to be so computer challenged.

Delete the parts between the [ ] that you don't want.
Acker is not the ideal BE point guard. True.
BUT,
I was glad to hear he was coming back. I thought he would add experience at the position. I thought 10-15 minutes with an experienced PG giving JC a rest, and not losing the ball would be good.
Given that JC isn't around, and Mo is what we have, he's playing well. Yeah, I'd like to have a bigger PG, but his experience certainly helps.

type [@quote][@/quote]
and copy and paste what you want quoted between there...
oh, and remove the @ symbols.
Thanks Hards. I'll give it a shot. Sad to be so far behind the technology!
This whole debate raises a further question in my head - what is the point of even arguing about Acker as a BE caliber player? Not to deny the message board community its fair share of fodder for discussion, but whether or not he is "BE caliber" is totally irrelevant to our season. He is going to play. A lot. That's what happens when the whole guard corp behind him has less than one year of experience (individually, not added together).
I'm not trying to say don't discuss the issue, just recognize that the argument is really fairly meaningless in relation to reality.

Pretty on target. Both Acker and Cubillan have played far beyond my expectations, But I have believed, and still believe that our PG situation will be our undoing in Feb and March (Coudagan's presence could potentially change that), but there is obviously nothing that can be done about it, but hope for the best.
