I knows thats awhile away and we still have Alot of work to do. This was talked about in a thread yesterday if this team is better than last years team. I have honestly never seen a team play with so much heart. To lose 5-6 games by 3 points or less. If this team makes the tournament they will be a tough out. I fully believe they will be like the jets of the nfl right now. No need to reply just posting my 2 cents
Reply I shall anyways. A team that is leading the nation in 3 pt FG% is definitely a scary one to see in the tourney. March Madness is all about getting hot at the right time, and if we're strokin 3's at any sort of a respectable clip we would definitely be a scary 12 seed for most any 5 seed.
I agree with the 12 seed very much. I was looking at tournament record from last year. It showed the badgers made the tournament with a 19-12 record? How did they even make it. They were not even good in conference either, regardless im thinking 10 big east wins should be good enough for a birth. Also, that uconn games is looking more winnable by the day.
IMHO, the only game that I am truly worried that we have no shot in is the game @CUSE.

If the 10 wins are 2 vs DePaul, 2 vs Providence, Saint Johns, Seton Hall, Rutgers, South Florida, Georgetown, plus one more, I don't think that is enough. Remember Providence went 10-8 BE last year but didn't get in because the 10 weren't the right 10. I think we need to get to 10 with a 4 wins against the likes of Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Louisville or better (we already have 1 against Georgetown.)
UConn is so big and athletic, I worry that they are just going to dominate us on the offensive boards. They are not that good this year, but they are a very tough matchup for us.

1 of Providences 10 wins was also against #1 Pitt!
Then again, they did have a fan call time out, walk out on the court, and discuss the previous foul call with the Ref...all while rocking the triple phat goose jacket...maybe the Selection Committee saw that on their resume.
You also have to take into account that the big east was awesome last year, and got what 8 teams in? The pac ten right now will get 1 team in only because they have to with the conference tournament. I believe more bubble teams make it this team because of a down year around college basketball as a whole. Going back to the 8 big east teams, if they do get 10 wins they will be in the top 6 most likely and should be good enough, but we will have to see how it pans out.

A few other comparisons if we use 10-8 Providence as the "measuring stick", which seems to be the closest comparison for us so far...
-They went 8-4 in non-conference play with a win over Rhode Island and losses to Northeastern (at home), Baylor, St. Mary's, and BC. How much better is 9-3 with wins over Xavier and Michigan (if they can turn into an NCAA team) and a home loss vs. NC State?
-Hard to believe they get left out if they win two games in the Big East Tournament, which means beating Louisville, which would have given them a second win over a #1 seed, 12 wins over BE opponents, and 20 overall. If we can't rack up 11 wins we still have a shot by doing something in New York, and on the other hand if we win the 8-9 easiest games left on our schedule and end up getting embarassed in the first round it could really hurt.

We should get the 9 you are alluding as winnable or have won.
Notre Dame should not be a problem at the BC. I would even put ND in the highly likely win list. We should be able to take at least 1/2 from Pitt and Louisville at home based on our shooting and guard play. The home crowd should be the difference in those games. That gets us in in my opinion. If we can get 1/3 on the road against Cuse, UConn, and Cincy, that should really give us a strong case.

MU should not have lost to NC State. However, NC State is an ACC team. There is nothing embarrassing on paper about losing to a program like that. At least compared to losing to some mid-major teams. I don't see it necessarily keeping us out because it is a bad loss. If the committee is trying to pick b/w us and an ACC team for a 12 seed, then our 0-2 against the ACC might hurt us I guess.
I hate doing this because every season is very different. But if you look at Providence's record last year, they had a couple of really good wins but they had some REALLY bad losses too (lost by 33 to UConn and 27 to West virginia). Which says something about MU's losses. We have three losses to good BE teams for a total of 5 points.
As for our team, the way we are playing right now, we are the prototypical scary 12 seed. We went toe to toe with Villanova which would probably be a 1 seed if the tourney started today. With that in mind, we would have a good shot of making it through the first weekend. Regardless, a tourney appearance would be a huge accomplishment for Buzz and the team.
If we make the tournament, I'll stick by my original statement....Buzz should get COY. Unfortunately, the award would probably go to Dixon who also had a rebuilding year but has his team playing lights out (sans one game).
"if this team is better than last years team. "
If this team was better than last year, the title of this thread wouldn't have been "If we make the tournament." It would have been "When we make the tournament."
I think we have a real shot to win any given game. If we are shooting hot I could see a 2-3 game mini run happening. We'd be a very scary 12 seed.
